POSITION SUMMARY:

The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the production schedule for an automotive stamping environment, including the scheduling of weld cell operations. This role ensures the optimal sequencing of stamping and welding operations, alignment with customer demand, and efficient use of labor, tooling, dies, weld fixtures and equipment, raw materials, and machine capacity. The Master Scheduler works closely with Production Control, Stamping Operations, Weld Operations, Quality, Engineering, Materials, and Supply Chain to create a schedule that supports on-time delivery, minimizes downtime, and maintains inventory accuracy. This position plays a critical role in balancing customer requirements with plant capabilities across both stamping and weld cells to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, publish, and maintain the master production schedule for stamping and weld cell operations based on customer forecasts, firm orders, engineering changes, and material availability.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly production plans for multiple stamping presses and weld cells across all shifts, ensuring optimal sequencing, synchronization of stamping-to-weld flow, and minimal downtime.
  • Schedule weld cell operations to align with upstream stamping output and downstream shipping requirements, balancing weld cell capacity, fixture availability, and robotic/manual station constraints.
  • Monitor schedule adherence, machine and weld cell capacity, WIP levels, and material constraints, adjusting schedules to meet changing conditions.
  • Collaborate with Production Control, Stamping Supervisors, and Weld Supervisors to balance workloads and resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Ensure production scheduling supports on-time delivery (OTD), inventory targets, and customer shipping requirements.
  • Communicate schedule updates, changes, and priorities to Production, Tool & Die, Weld, Materials, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Identify risks to the schedule, including equipment downtime, tooling and weld fixture issues, material shortages, and quality concerns; escalate as needed.
  • Coordinate with Tool & Die and Maintenance on die and weld fixture readiness, repair schedules, PM requirements, and press and weld cell changeover planning.
  • Maintain scheduling data in ERP/MES systems and ensure accuracy of production orders, routings, BOMs, and lead times for both stamping and weld operations.
  • Support new product launches by developing preliminary schedules, validating stamping and weld cell capacity, and coordinating trial runs.
  • Analyze historical production data to recommend improvements in press and weld cell utilization, staffing plans, and setup efficiency.
  • Monitor customer releases, EDI transactions, and shipment schedules to adjust plans proactively.
  • Prepare reports on capacity usage, production attainment, schedule accuracy, and customer delivery performance.
  • Foster strong communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the scheduling and production process.
  • Assumes additional duties as assigned, which may fall outside the primary scope of the role.
