Title: Senior Software Engineer - 123301
Onsite/Remote:Onsite Position
## Your Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer for John Deere Harvester Works located in Des Moines, IA, you will:
Own the end‑to‑end technical excellence of the Operations product and its enterprise integrations. You will also:
- Design, develop, and deliver complex applications and services that integrate with enterprise platforms (data, identity, observability, CI/CD), ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable solutions for factory operations.
- Lead solution architecture and code quality: define patterns, interfaces, and performance budgets; conduct and set the bar for code/design reviews; drive clean, maintainable, well‑tested code across the stack.
- Set and evolve the technical vision with the Software Engineering Manager—translate product outcomes into technical strategy, roadmaps, and architecture runway; de‑risk delivery through spikes and proofs‑of‑concept.
- Coach and mentor teammates on system design, debugging techniques, testing strategy, and our technical stack (e.g., React/TypeScript, APIs, data stores, pipelines); grow engineering capability through pairing, knowledge shares, and actionable feedback.
- Own reliability and test engineering practices: champion automated tests (unit, integration, end‑to‑end), performance monitoring, and resilience patterns; lead root‑cause analysis for complex incidents and drive preventative measures. Drive DevOps excellence: maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and environment health; ensure observability (logs, metrics, traces) and operational readiness .
- Guard information security in design and implementation (least privilege, secure coding, dependency hygiene) and partner with platform/security teams to remediate findings quickly.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with product management, UX, factory stakeholders, and enterprise platform teams to align technical choices with business outcomes; communicate trade‑offs and data‑driven recommendations clearly.
- Steward documentation: author and maintain architecture decision records, API contracts, production support guides, and onboarding materials to ensure product continuity and scale.
- Continuously improve the product and process: identify bottlenecks, propose experiments, and measure impact (quality, cycle time, MTTR, cost); model curiosity and technical leadership across the broader community.

## What Skills You Need
- React (≥ 5 years):
- Demonstrated expertise building complex, component‑based SPAs; strong command of hooks, context, performance optimization (memoization, virtualization), and state management patterns. Proven history of owning front‑end architecture, code reviews, and production troubleshooting.
- TypeScript (≥ 4 years):
- Deep experience with strict typing, generics, discriminated unions, and type‑safe APIs. Ability to define robust domain models, author reusable type utilities, and enforce correctness across large codebases (tsconfig hygiene, ESLint rules, CI checks).
- Test‑Driven Development (TDD) (≥ 4 years):
- Consistent practice of writing tests first and maintaining high coverage for unit, integration, and component tests (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress). Skilled at designing seam points, refactoring safely, and preventing regressions through automated pipelines.
- Container‑as‑a‑Service (CaaS) / Kubernetes (≥ 3 years):
- Hands‑on experience packaging, deploying, and operating services in a CaaS environment (Docker, Helm, K8s). Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, observability (logs/metrics/traces), Pod Disruption Budgets, resource requests/limits, and secure configuration of apps and secrets.
## What Makes You Stand Out
- Manufacturing domain experience
- Practical exposure to factory operations. Comfortable collaborating with plant stakeholders to translate operational needs into software outcomes, balancing performance, reliability, and usability in production environments.
- Performance Optimization & Observability
- Familiarity with performance budgets, profiling tools, and observability stacks (New Relic, Datadog) to ensure reliability and scalability in production.
- CI/CD and DevOps Practices
- Advanced knowledge of automated pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm), and secure deployment strategies in enterprise environments.
- Security and Compliance Awareness
- Experience implementing secure coding practices, dependency scanning, and compliance with enterprise standards.
- Leadership in Technical Communities
- Prior involvement in architecture councils, code quality initiatives, or mentoring programs to foster engineering excellence.
- Data Integration and API Design
- Experience with RESTful APIs, plus familiarity with data pipelines (Databricks, Kafka) for analytics and AI enablement.
- Agile and Lean Delivery
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and ability to drive continuous improvement through metrics and retrospectives.
