We are SLR International, a 1,000+ North American team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. SLR Consulting is seeking an entry- to mid-level Water Resources Engineer to work in its Water Resource Engineering group located in Richmond, Vermont. Richmond is a vibrant historic village that sits on the Winooski River between Montpelier and Burlington. This job offers candidates the opportunity to work on a wide range of water resource projects such as dam removal, floodplain restoration, flood mitigation, stormwater management, and bridge/culvert design. This permanent position is an excellent opportunity to learn and do important work for communities, while collaborating with a diverse team on a variety of projects.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with hydrology and hydraulic calculations and modeling, GIS mapping, and CAD drafting. The work will include periodic field trips to complete a variety of assessment and data collection tasks that will involve work in and around rivers or roads.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering design and develop technical drawings using GIS and AutoCAD for water resource projects
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and modeling
- Collect monitoring data and perform field observations in rivers and floodplains
- Provide technical support for engineering analysis and design of water resources projects
- Prepare technical documents and reports
- Prepare maps and conduct analysis using GIS
- Participate on our team with a positive attitude
- Manage and develop projects, for those with more experience
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Occasional extended work hours may be required to meet deadlines or conduct long field trips
- Work outdoors in environmental conditions that include heat, rain, snow, humidity, and cold
- During field visits, stand for long periods, climb hills, and walk through riparian corridors, forests, and undeveloped terrain, on uneven ground, and conduct work within a stream channel
- Endure exposure to insects and wildlife
- Occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Basic to advanced computer skills required

- The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $80,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
Qualifications/Education/Memberships:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 0 to 6 years' experience in water resource design
- Experience applying modeling (e.g., HEC RAS, HEC HMS, and others)
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
- Consulting experience a plus
- Working knowledge of ArcPro GIS
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Technical writing proficiency
- Interest in helping the community
- Valid driver’s license
- Passion to meet deadlines and learn
