You’ll bring solid experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO), CRA filing requirements, payroll, Canadian tax regulations, and financial reporting, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where they can make a meaningful impact, improve processes, and support business decisions through accurate and reliable financial information.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, and account reconciliations.
- Process and review invoices, payments, deposits, expense reports, and vendor transactions accurately and within required timelines.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts to ensure financial records remain accurate and up to date.
- Manage month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
- Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and other relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate payroll processing and ensure payroll is handled accurately and in accordance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and submit HST and other required government remittances, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance, providing useful insights to support planning and business decisions.
- Review and improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls to increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Work closely with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, trustees, and other professional advisors when required.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning by gathering, analyzing, and reporting relevant financial information.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies while addressing the underlying causes and putting appropriate solutions in place.
- Keep financial records, supporting documentation, and accounting systems organized, accurate, and ready for audit or review.
- Build positive and professional relationships with internal teams, external partners, and clients through clear and responsive communication.
- Take ownership of the accounting function and contribute to the organization's continued growth and operational success.
Skills & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Certified QBO Specialist (Intuit ProAdvisor Level 2 or higher).
- CPA designation, or progress toward a CPA designation, is considered an asset but is not required.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting and bookkeeping experience, ideally within a small to mid-sized business.
- Strong hands-on experience managing the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian accounting practices, payroll processes, HST, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate financial statements and maintain well-organized, audit-ready records.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including reconciliations, reporting, and financial data analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, accountability, and confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-directed and dependable, with the ability to work independently and take full ownership of responsibilities.
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial, owner-managed, or growing business environment is an asset.
- A proactive, hands-on mindset with a willingness to get involved in both the day-to-day accounting work and broader financial initiatives.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is hands-on, reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership. This person should be able to move between the details of day-to-day accounting and the bigger picture of financial reporting and business support.
If you enjoy improving processes, solving problems, working closely with leadership, and being the person others can rely on for accurate financial information, this could be a great opportunity for you.
