Description
**Location:** Vienna
**Division:** R&D
**Reporting Line:** Head of R&D (Line Manager); SW Team Lead (Funktional Lead)
**Language:** English (must), German (plus)
**About PIDSO**
For over 15 years, PIDSO has been developing high-performance communication solutions “Made in Austria” – built for environments where failure is not an option.
Our antenna and RF systems enable reliable data transmission and signal processing in mission-critical applications across aerospace, defense, motorsport, automotive, and Industry 4.0.
We combine research, development, manufacturing, and testing under one roof. Fast, focused, and with uncompromising attention to detail.
## Tasks
**The role**
We are looking for a senior software engineer to build and maintain critical applications used by our R&D, Production, and Quality teams. The role combines hands-on Python development, regular contact with users, and responsibility for software once it is in use.
You will work with specialists in embedded software, RF/DSP, hardware development, Production, and Quality. They bring the domain knowledge; you turn their needs into software that is reliable, maintainable, and practical to use.
**What you will work on**
One of your first substantial projects will be our Python application for RF measurements in an anechoic chamber and hardware end tests, ensuring quality of our high-end antenna products. It controls lab equipment, visualizes measurement results, and generates reports, while its backend directly supports product development in R&D.
Other current areas include:
- Python applications for engineering and test workflows;
- build, test, and release pipelines for embedded software;
- tools for provisioning embedded products;
- simulation and evaluation frameworks for algorithm development;
- small internal services and web applications where they are a better fit than a desktop application.
As the role develops, you can take on more work in the areas that best fit your strengths and interests.
**What you will do**
- Talk to users, observe how they work, and turn their requirements and problems into practical software changes.
- Develop and maintain Python applications, libraries, and tests in the context of radar, communications, and antennas.
- Take responsibility for the path from source code to a released, deployed, and supported application.
- Investigate problems involving application code, operating systems, configuration, networks, and connected hardware or services.
- Improve existing software step by step without disrupting the people who depend on it.
- Work with Quality, IT, and domain experts where their input or approval is needed.
- Keep important technical decisions and operating procedures documented.
## Requirements
**What you bring**
- At least four years of professional experience in software development, including work on applications used in day-to-day operations.
- Strong Python skills gained while building and maintaining applications, libraries, or services.
- Experience taking responsibility for an application beyond coding: understanding user needs, making technical decisions, releasing it, supporting it, and improving it based on feedback.
- Sound knowledge of application design, automated testing, logging, dependency management, version control, and CI/CD.
- A systematic approach to debugging problems that span applications, operating systems, networks, configuration, and hardware.
- The confidence to work directly with technical and non-technical users, including when requirements are incomplete or conflicting.
- Clear communication, great engineering judgment, and an independent way of working.
- Professional English.
- Active and responsible use of LLM-assisted development tools: you use them where they help, but review, test, and take responsibility for the result.
**Helpful experience**
- desktop application development with Qt, PySide, PyQt, or a comparable framework;
- packaging, deploying, and supporting Python applications on Windows and Linux;
- Docker, reproducible builds, artifact management, signing, and release controls;
- laboratory, RF, measurement equipment, or hardware testing experience;
- work in a regulated or quality-managed engineering environment;
- REST APIs, web applications, or asynchronous Python;
- German language skills.
## Benefits
**Why Join PIDSO?**
At PIDSO, software doesn’t just support the business – it helps build, test, and deliver high-end antenna and radar technology.
You’ll work close to the hardware, the engineers, and the products: from RF measurement systems and automated test environments to engineering tools used every day in R&D and Production.
**What you can expect:**
- **Engineering with real-world impact** – your software directly supports the development and quality of our antenna, radar, and communication systems.
- **Ownership that matters** – from understanding the problem to architecture, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- **Close to the technology** – work alongside specialists in RF, DSP, embedded software, hardware, Production, and Quality.
- **Complex challenges instead of generic software projects** – measurement systems, connected hardware, automation, simulation, and engineering workflows.
- **Room to shape things** – PIDSO is growing, and so are our software landscape, processes, and engineering capabilities.
- **A high-tech environment with short decision paths** – where good ideas can quickly become working solutions.
We are building technology that has to perform when it matters – **from the first line of Python to the signal in space.**
**Salary**
For this position, the minimum salary according to the Kollektivvertrag Metallgewerbe (Verwendungs-gruppe IV, 6 years) is € 4.132,15 gross per month, with a clear willingness to overpay based on your existing projects and technical skills.
