REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor's degree in nursing, preferred. A valid South Dakota Registered Nurse license required.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

3 years or more experience in the healthcare field. Preferred experience in school nursing, pediatrics, community health, emergency/critical care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift up 35 pounds intermittently during an eight-hour day. Requires constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, intermittent speaking and walking. Requires frequent keyboarding, repetitive motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers. Standing, turning, and stooping are required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical ability to assess vision, hearing, carry equipment and perform CPR. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to provide physical assessment and CPR. Ability to work flexible schedule to meet students' needs, during the duty day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Consults with administrators to determine goals and services.
2. Serves as a team member in identifying, evaluating, and providing services for children.
3. Collects information about the health and developmental status of the student in a systematic and continuous manner.
4. Uses data collected about health and developmental status of the student to determine a nursing diagnosis.
5. Develops and maintains a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions that are unique to that student's needs.
6. Serves as a liaison between the school and community health and welfare agencies and the medical profession.
7. Focuses on prevention of illness, disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems.
8. Assists with the development and maintenance of student health records.
9. Coordinates building health day screenings.
10. Communicates with colleagues, parents and students.
11. Facilitates referral of students and families to appropriate district and community services.
12. Participates in ongoing professional growth.
13. Provides care for students with scheduled and unscheduled health needs. Including but not limited to responding to emergencies, administering medications, providing specialized health treatments as directed by the student's physician and District policy.
14. Trains and supervises staff in delegated tasks.
15. Provides health education for students, staff and parents.
16. Maintains and assures confidentiality of information.
17. Inventories and requests equipment and materials needed in assigned buildings for health care.
18. Maximizes instructional and nursing time.
19. Participates in professional and/or community organizations.
20. Complies with school District policies and operating procedures and South Dakota Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY INFORMATION

Starting at $53,981 to $60,793 per year, based on experience and education.

HOURS & FTE

Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months
