Position Summary...
What you'll do...
About Team:
Inventory & Merch Tech is the engineering backbone of Walmart's Inventory & Merchandising organization, spanning pricing, cost management, supplier, item, and inventory platforms that support 10,000+ stores and Walmart's global supply chain. Our team delivers a single, unified experience for Walmart’s supplier community across all channels, covering Tier 1 capabilities end to end. Our goal is to dramatically scale assortment while improving supplier efficiency. We operate with high autonomy, a strong engineering culture, and a bias toward clean, principle-based design over quick patches.
What you'll do:
Define and own the technical roadmap and end-to-end delivery for merchant- and associate-facing pricing, assortment, and promotion applications.
Lead and direct large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects, translating requirements into technical solutions and directing execution across teams.
Stay hands-on: develop design artifacts such as proof of concepts and prototypes, write and review code and oversee software design and unit test coverage.
Build and maintain cloud-native, resilient services using Java/Spring, Kafka, Cosmos DB, and REST/GraphQL APIs across Azure, GCP, and internal cloud platforms, with a React front end.
Hire, develop, and retain a strong team of software engineers, owning performance management, career growth, and promotions.
Own cloud cost discipline for your team's services, balancing performance and reliability against spend.
Hold the team to a high engineering bar: strong CI/CD, automated testing, and security standards; automate where it pays off rather than by default.
Partner with product, program, and project managers on plans, dependency tracking, and hand-offs; communicate status, risks, and issues clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.
What you'll bring:
Engineering degree (B.E./B.Tech./M.S.) in any discipline; Computer Science preferred.
12+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading Agile/Scrum teams.
Strong hands-on track record in Java/Spring and modern front-end development (React or equivalent).
Deep expertise in architecture and design patterns, cloud-native microservices, and event-driven systems (Kafka or similar).
Production experience on at least one major public cloud (Azure or GCP).
Strong CS fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving.
Proven experience building and leading high-performing, geographically distributed engineering teams.
Program management exposure: dependency and delivery tracking across teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have:
Experience standing up and scaling an engineering team from the ground up.
Experience integrating AI/ML/GenAI services into production systems.
Exposure to supply-chain, retail, or other high-scale, data-intensive e-commerce domains.
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or PMP certification.
