Essential Functions: The Educational Specialist coordinates and delivers educational instruction and programming for patients who require academic support due to their medical diagnosis. Key responsibilities include building relationships with patients’ families and collaborating with clinical care teams to support each patient’s educational needs. The Educational Specialist communicates and coordinates with schools to develop individualized instruction plans for patients. The position also provides direct instruction when appropriate and supervises hired instructors, tutors, and volunteers who support educational programming. This role includes coordinating with community organizations and overseeing educational activities in the classroom located in Walker’s Imaginarium. Additionally, the Educational Specialist tracks program metrics and ensures quality oversight of all educational services.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 to 3 years of experience. (Required)
• The consultant shall be knowledgeable in the education and development of children with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses. (Preferred)
• They shall also be knowledgeable about current state and federal legislation and policies pertaining to educational services available for children ages birth through 21. (Preferred)
• Special Education experience. (Preferred)
• Certified teacher designation. (Preferred)

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development or a related field.
• Preferred: Master's Degree in Education, Child Development or a related field.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Interpersonal communications.
• Coordination of services.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer and computer program skills.
• Coordination of events.
• Knowledge of LA Schools.
