Overview
Central Health is looking for a skilled general surgeon to join our growing practice, committed to serving theunderserved community in Travis County. This physician will be responsible for seeing patients in clinic andperforming outpatient general surgery procedures including but not limited to laparoscopic cholecystectomy, openand minimally invasive hernia repair, soft tissue surgery, and pilonidal cyst treatment. There is an opportunity toperform upper and lower endoscopy as well. This position will support learners at various levels and may superviseadvanced practice providers during direct clinical practice. The primary focus of this role will be seeing patients inclinic as well as performing outpatient elective surgeries and procedures in an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC)while collaborating with Central Health staff to improve care delivery, access, and outcomes for a vulnerablepopulation. While the majority of operations are performed in the ambulatory setting, there is also an opportunityto perform hospital-based elective surgery for appropriate patients.
Responsibilities
Within scope of credentialing, performs surgeries and surgical care in an Ambulatory Surgery Center.Prescribes medications and therapies related to the surgical treatment required.Instructs patients and their families regarding procedures performed, plan of care, and follow‐ up visit.Directs professional and ancillary health care staff during treatment of patients.Responds to inquiries from staff and patients regarding surgical care and treatments.Compiles patient medical data including health history, treatment plans, results of physical examination, etc. andrecords in electronic medical record.Actively communicates with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner in person and on the phone.Demonstrates professional management skills, including the ability to plan, organize and schedule work in anefficient and productive manner, focusing on key priorities and meeting deadlines.Actively interact with peers, executives, employees, and consultants in a manner that represents Central Healthpositively.Plans, promotes, demonstrates, recommends, and coordinates high standards of medical practice.Perform up to 40 hours of direct clinical practice per week.Perform other duties as assigned.People Management/Department Management/Business Unit Management:Actively supports the Director of Specialty Care to support employed and contracted providers within thedepartment.Works in tandem with Central Health's operational and clinical leaders to ensure a collaborative team-orientedenvironment.Leads and motivates the medical providers under his/her supervision; uses effective medical and peopleperformance management processes.Performs or supports objective annual evaluations of all direct reports with the input from the practice leader andother stakeholders.
