Job Summary
The main role of the research assistant is to assist with research and quality improvement/assurance projects in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics.

Organizational Status
This research assistant will interact with the Cardiology quality lead (Dr. Steven Rathgber), Cardiology Division Head (Dr. Emilie Jean-St-Michel), as well as other members of the Division of Cardiology who pursue quality improvement/assurance initiatives.

Works within well-defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion; new or unusual problems are referred to supervisor.

Work Performed
The tasks performed by the research assistant are the following:

• Collect data, perform chart review, data extraction, data entry into Excel and Redcap databases; conduct descriptive data analysis and process evaluations.
• Plan meetings, transcribe and distribute minutes related to quality improvement activities.
• Maintain and update lists, databases, and reports.
• Format letters, tables and charts.
• Analyze findings and present to the PI of the project.
• Assist with compilation of data and contribute to preparation of quality improvement presentations and publications.

Perform other related duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Once the incumbent is trained, the person will work independently on the assigned tasks. He/she will report to the quality lead or relevant PI. This individual will prioritize the tasks and make sure the most important tasks can be completed. The incumbent will be working with patient data and therefore the highest discretion and confidentiality is required.

Supervision Received
Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or Graduation from a technical college or institute. Undergraduate degree in Science preferred. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to exercise tact and discretion. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
