About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Mental Health Research Assistant to join the Brain Stimulation Lab within the Mental Health & Addiction Medicine Program at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. The role will support the recruitment and coordination of participants for interventional clinical trials investigating Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for depression and other neuropsychiatric disorders.
- Recruit, screen and assess participants for clinical trials, including administering clinical rating scales and coordinating appointments and follow-up assessments
- Support the delivery of TMS treatment and clinical trial procedures, with training provided as required
- Collect, enter, curate and undertake minor analysis of research data, contributing to reports, publications and conference materials
- Provide administrative and research support, including maintaining research databases, records and study documentation
- Liaise with participants, treating teams, investigators and research staff to support effective trial coordination and participant engagement
Classifications for this position will range from MI3 – MI13 ($77,682 - $92,227 per annum)
Your Contribution
- Doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline or closely related field, or substantial relevant skills and work experience
- Demonstrated experience in participant recruitment, with the ability to establish rapport and positive relationships with consumers
- Experience with clinical trials and sound knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines, with familiarity and competence in brain stimulation techniques and interventional research
- Experience administering clinical rating scales, particularly those relating to depression, together with strong written, verbal and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research environment, with strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical software
- A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

The Mental Health & Addiction Medicine Program at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne provides a comprehensive range of mental health and addiction services across inpatient, community, emergency and specialist settings, supporting consumers across the lifespan. The program also delivers state-wide specialist services and undertakes innovative clinical research, including through the Brain Stimulation Lab, which translates cutting-edge neuroscience into clinically meaningful and individualised treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders.
