Job Description:
Help shape the employee experience and future of Altera India
Altera is looking for a strategic, practical, and trusted HR leader to serve as Senior HR Business Partner – India Leader. This is a high-impact country HR role supporting Altera’s India operations across Bangalore and Hyderabad. You will partner closely with India business leaders, global and regional HR colleagues, and specialist COE teams to help Altera attract, develop, engage, and retain exceptional talent. From shaping workforce plans and strengthening leadership capability to navigating complex employee-relations matters, you will help turn business priorities into people strategies that work in the India context. This is an opportunity to make a visible difference: you will have the scope to influence how work gets done, how leaders lead, how employees experience Altera, and how global people programs come to life locally.
What you’ll do
Serve as a strategic partner to India leaders
Advise business leaders on workforce planning, organization design, talent priorities, performance, employee experience, leadership effectiveness, and organizational change.
Bring sound judgment, commercial awareness, and a pragmatic India perspective to complex people decisions.
Anticipate workforce needs and translate business strategy into clear, actionable people priorities.
Build talent and organizational effectiveness
Lead or support talent reviews, succession planning, retention strategies, career development, engagement, performance management, and manager capability programs.
Use workforce insights and people analytics to identify trends, focus attention, and measure progress.
Help leaders create an environment where employees can do their best work, grow their careers, and feel connected to Altera’s mission.
Strengthen manager confidence and capability in handling day-to-day people matters effectively and consistently.
Connect India to the global HR community
Represent India in regional and global HR forums, bringing local insight into enterprise discussions.
Translate global people programs into practical, effective implementation plans for India.
Clearly communicate India-specific requirements, implications, and opportunities to global and regional stakeholders.
Help balance enterprise consistency with the local context needed to make programs successful.
Provide trusted guidance on India HR, compliance, and employee relations
Apply strong knowledge of Indian employment practices, including applicable central and state requirements, Labour Codes, POSH, employee documentation, social security, leave, maternity, contractor matters, investigations, grievances, disciplinary processes, and exits.
Partner with Legal, Compliance, HR Services, Payroll, Benefits, and business leaders to identify and manage risk early.
Handle sensitive and complex employee-relations matters with discretion, empathy, consistency, and sound judgment.
Help ensure policies and practices are clear, compliant, and workable for employees and managers.
Partner with HR Centers of Excellence
Work closely with Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, HR Services, People Systems, and other COEs on India priorities.
Support India benefits strategy, plan implementation, enrollment, vendor coordination, employee communications, local requirements, and complex case resolution.
Improve the end-to-end employee experience by connecting policy, process, systems, and service delivery.
Qualifications:
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
Typically 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including substantial HR Business Partner experience in India.
Experience advising senior leaders in a multinational, technology, engineering, or similarly complex organization.
Demonstrated experience with Indian employee relations, workplace compliance, investigations, performance management, workforce changes, and HR policy implementation.
Experience partnering with Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Legal, Compliance, HR Services, and People Systems teams.
Strong English communication skills, with the ability to influence across levels, functions, cultures, and geographies.
Excellent judgment, discretion, problem-solving ability, and comfort operating in sensitive or ambiguous situations.
Experience with Workday or another enterprise HRIS is preferred.
An MBA, MHRM, PGDM in Human Resources, or comparable qualification is preferred.
SHRM, CIPD, or equivalent HR certification is desirable, but not required in place of strong India HR experience.
What success looks like
Demonstrates strong business partnership by identifying opportunities and risks early, developing practical solutions, and delivering measurable outcomes for leaders and employees.
Talent, engagement, retention, leadership capability, and organizational-health priorities show measurable progress.
Global HR programs are implemented effectively, with the right level of India localization.
Managers are more confident handling people matters and know when and how to engage the right HR partners.
India-specific compliance, payroll, benefits, and employee-relations risks are surfaced early and managed with the appropriate owners.
Employees experience clearer processes, stronger support, and a more consistent connection to Altera.
Why Altera
At Altera, your impact will extend well beyond traditional HR support. You’ll help shape the people agenda for a strategically important India organization while working at the intersection of business leadership, global HR strategy, and local expertise.
