Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE) (tsne.org) is working to build a more just, equitable society. Responsibilities

The Manager, Strategic Communications, plays a key leadership role in strengthening TSNE’s brand presence, managing integrated communications projects, and promoting mission-aligned services. This role leads content development and organizational storytelling strategies that elevate TSNE’s identity, engage priority audiences, and support the Advancement department’s strategic goals.

 

This position oversees content pipelines and manages marketing initiatives across TSNE’s core service lines, including consulting and training, fiscal sponsorship, shared services, and property services. Working closely with Strategic Communications, Advancement, and program and service teams, the Manager ensures that content is clear, values-aligned, and tailored to target audiences.

 

The Manager also serves as project manager for communications initiatives and as a lead collaborator across internal departments to deliver coordinated, equity-centered messaging and campaigns.

 

Essential Functions

 

Brand Stewardship & Content Leadership – 30%

  • Serve as lead writer and editor for branded content across platforms, including web, email, blog, social media, and printed materials.
  • Serve as the editor and manager of TSNE's email marketing strategy.
  • Maintain consistent tone, voice, and brand application across all departments, campaigns, and service areas.
  • Partner with program and service teams to co-create stories that elevate TSNE's consulting and training, fiscal sponsorship, shared services, property services, and advocacy work.
  • Develop audience-specific messages for nonprofits, funders, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead TSNE's external webinar series, highlighting TSNE's thought leadership and service lines.
  • In close partnership with the Director, support implementation of internal communications strategies.

Project Management & Campaign Execution – 30%

  • Serve as project manager for multichannel marketing campaigns and strategic content initiatives.
  • Create and manage editorial calendars, timelines, and workflows for recurring communications projects, including the production of TSNE reports and publications.
  • Coordinate cross-functional communications tasks across teams and consultants.
  • Lead campaign planning and post-campaign assessments in collaboration with the Senior Director.
  • Manage content briefs and intake processes for service promotions, events, and thought leadership assets.

Marketing for Programs & Services – 25%

  • Lead content and campaign development to market TSNE's services, including consulting and training, fiscal sponsorship, shared services, and property services.
  • Collaborate with service line leads to identify marketing goals, define audience needs, and tailor value propositions.
  • In partnership with the Senior Associate, write, edit, and produce promotional materials including flyers, service guides, landing pages, video content, and client-facing messaging.
  • Support Advancement team efforts to integrate service marketing with donor, policy, and sector engagement strategies.

People and Vendor Management, Project Oversight & Team Support - 15%

  • Provide project-level guidance to the Senior Associate on designated communications deliverables, while formal supervision remains with the Senior Director.
  • Manage consultant and vendor relationships to ensure timely deliverables, strategic alignment, and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Support team workflows, project prioritization, and coordination across communications initiatives as needed.

 

Complete other tasks and projects related to the position, as needed.

Required:

  • At least 4 years of experience in brand strategy, communications, content marketing, project management, or a related field, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex communications initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and audiences.
  • Familiarity with marketing tools, CRMs, editorial calendars, analytics tools, and design collaboration platforms.
  • Experience working with or in service to nonprofits, foundations, or community-based organizations.
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic organizational environments; agile, realistic, and practical when priorities shift.
  • High emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and the ability to work collaboratively or independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, social justice, and inclusive communications practices.

Preferred:

  • Experience marketing consulting, training, and/or professional services.
  • Background in journalism, content strategy, nonprofit marketing, or advocacy communications.
  • Knowledge of audience segmentation, user-centered design, or storytelling for systems change.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

 

The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen is an essential aspect of the position. There may be a need to lift and/or move materials or equipment.

 

Location: Work will be performed between our office located at the NonProfit Center at 89 South Street, Suite 700, Boston, MA 02111 and your home office. This position will require you to be on-site for in-person client engagements and some meetings with TSNE staff and program participants occasionally, which may take place outside of the TSNE office and may require to be on-site more regularly with advanced notice.

Schedule: This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and hours are flexible within reason.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

Compensation: The salary for this position is $102,900.20 annually, paid bi-weekly at $3,957.70.

Benefits: This position is eligible for a full benefits package including:

  • Generous Paid-Time-Off (PTO): twelve paid holidays, three weeks of vacation, one week of personal holiday, and ability to accrue up to 487.5 hours of health leave time for benefited staff.
