DESCRIPTION
Gooch & Housego is seeking a Molding Machine Operator – A Shift to support its Rochester, NY manufacturing site.
Located in Rochester and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics used in biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision, analytical instrumentation, and defense applications.
This position is responsible for producing high-quality injection molded optical components through inspection, processing, packaging, and adherence to established manufacturing and quality standards.
The position's scope includes:
- Inspect and degate injection molded polymer optical lenses of various sizes and geometries.
- Package finished parts in accordance with customer and production quality requirements.
- Record production data including cycle times and scrap rates within the ERP system.
- Operate one or more injection molding machines and perform basic secondary operations such as milling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free work environment.
- Read, understand, and follow work instructions, process control plans, and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and process technicians to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Communicate production, equipment, or quality concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with inventory counts and material preparation for incoming shifts.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in updating work instructions as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous manufacturing, production, or inspection experience required.
- Experience operating or working around injection molding equipment preferred.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality standards and manufacturing best practices preferred.
- Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control) methods is a plus.
- Basic computer skills with experience entering production data into ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a clean, precision manufacturing environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
