Mechanical Engineer

Job Description Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the review, coordination, and supervision of all mechanical aspects of AAR's construction projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements, design intent, quality standards, operational needs, and applicable regulations.

Acting on behalf of the Owner, the Mechanical Engineer provides technical oversight throughout the design, procurement, construction, testing, and handover phases, ensuring that mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project objectives, and contractual requirements.

The role is site-based and works closely with GPP (Aviagen's design and construction supervision consultant), project managers, contractors, suppliers, and site supervision teams to supervise, coordinate, inspect, approve, and resolve technical issues, monitor progress, manage interfaces between disciplines, and support successful project delivery.

Design & Technical Review

• Review mechanical drawings, calculations, technical submittals, shop drawings, material approvals, and method statements.

• Support design reviews and provide technical recommendations to optimize system performance, maintainability, and cost efficiency.

• Provide technical recommendations to improve functionality, constructability, maintainability, operational efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

Site Supervision & Construction Monitoring

• Review and supervise the installation of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with design documents, technical specifications, and applicable codes and standards.

• Review and supervise mechanical works, including plumbing and fire protection systems, to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, project requirements, and applicable codes and standards.

• Monitor construction activities to ensure proper implementation of mechanical systems, identifying and resolving technical issues when required.

• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (civil, architectural, electrical) to ensure proper integration of all systems.

Inspection, Testing & Quality Control

• Track, review, and approve the full inspection cycle: vendor, subcontractor, material, and testing-laboratory approval; verification of materials on delivery; stage-by-stage inspection and acceptance of works; testing, commissioning, operational readiness, and final handover; and support for quantity verification, progress measurement, and payment certification.

• Participate in inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and final acceptance procedures.

• Verify compliance with quality assurance and quality control requirements related to mechanical works.

Coordination & Procurement Support

• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and site supervisors on all mechanical engineering matters.

• Support procurement activities by reviewing technical specifications, evaluating suppliers, and participating in technical bid assessments.

Reporting & Risk Management

• Monitor project progress related to mechanical activities and report potential risks, delays, or technical concerns.

• Prepare technical reports, site observations, punch lists, and progress updates for project management and clients.

HSE Compliance

Ensure mechanical installations comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
