Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide general cleaning prophylactic care including: oral hygiene instruction, general cleanings for children and adults, scaling and root planning, and periodontal exams.

Position responsibilities:

• Mandatory 7:45am Staff Meeting.
• Provide preventive care such as prophylaxis, application of fluoride and placement of pit and fissure sealants.
• Provide dental health education such as oral health instructions, tobacco cessation counseling and nutritional counseling.
• Document patient chief complaint, treatment needs, treatment plan, general findings, diagnosis and treatment provided.
• Provide routine preventive services consistent with diagnosis of need and within scope of approved dental hygiene practices.
• Maintain confidentiality of medical records and other information as required by applicable laws, regulations and policies.
• Provides services as approved by the Chief Dentist and in accordance with Federal Dental Practice Guidelines. Guidance from AAAHC guidelines also apply.
• Perform routine dental procedure including but not limited to infection control practices, x-ray techniques, evaluating x-rays, scaling and root planning, debridement, dental prophylaxis, preventive services including pit and fissure sealants and oral hygiene education.
• The care provided will be within the range of services available.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience:

• Two to five years of Dental Hygienist experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but Associate’s Degree acceptable from an accredited Dental Hygiene school.
• Have current and unrestricted State Dental Hygiene license and local anesthetic permit.
• Knowledge of techniques to manage care for patients ages 3 and up including dosage of anesthetic and medications.
• Knowledge of proper documentation of needed and provided treatment using ADA/IHS codes.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of HIPPA guidelines and drug and alcohol record laws/ regulations.
• Follows safety and infection control guidelines.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience leading a team.

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: Working in close contact with patients mean exposure to communicable diseases. Work demands sitting and bending for periods of time while providing dental care. Frequent fine motor muscular demands on hands is required while using hand instruments and headpieces.
