Position Summary
The Head of Claims, North America – Financial Lines & Professional Liability is responsible for leading and overseeing all claims operations for Financial Lines (including Directors & Officers, Errors & Omissions, Cyber, Employment Practices, and Fiduciary Liability) and Professional Liability products within North America. This is a senior leadership position, accountable for ensuring the profitable growth, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and optimal client experience within the claims function. This role will drive strategy, people leadership, process improvement, and collaboration with underwriting, actuarial, legal, risk engineering, and external partners. The role reports directly to the Global Chief Claims Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the North America claims strategy for Financial Lines and Professional Liability aligned with global objectives.
- Lead a team of claims professionals; mentor, train, and develop talent to maintain a high-performance culture.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the claims lifecycle.
- Operational Excellence:
- Oversee end-to-end claims resolution, ensuring prompt, fair, and cost-effective outcomes for clients and the company.
- Monitor and analyze key claims metrics; proactively identify and address trends affecting portfolio performance.
- Manage large, complex, and sensitive claims directly as needed.
- Regulatory & Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to local, state/provincial, and federal insurance regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Oversee audits and respond to regulatory inquiries as necessary.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Serve as a key liaison with internal stakeholders (underwriting, actuarial, risk, reinsurance, legal).
- Cultivate relationships with brokers, clients, outside counsel, TPAs, and vendors.
- Customer Experience & Claims Advocacy:
- Champion the claims experience and act as a company ambassador in client consultations and escalated matters.
- Drive value-added services and differentiated claims solutions for clients.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive claims experience, with significant leadership responsibility for Financial Lines and Professional Liability in the North American P&C market.
- In-depth technical expertise across D&O, E&O, Cyber, EPL, and related professional liability lines.
- Proven track record of team leadership, talent development, and strategic claims management.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex or high-value claims and litigation.
- Knowledge of North American regulatory landscape and claims handling standards.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or industry designations (e.g., JD, CPCU, AIC, RPLU) preferred.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $250,000 - $325,000.
