How do we work?

The Head of Financial Risk is responsible for overseeing Risk at OANDA TMS (OTMS), ensuring effective risk management, appropriate controls and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. The role provides independent risk oversight across the firm's key financial risks, supports sound business decision-making and helps maintain the firm's financial stability and risk governance framework.

The successful candidate will also be a member of the OTMS Management Board, with responsibility for Risk Management at the local entity, ensuring alignment with the global risk framework and applicable Polish regulatory requirements.

We work in a hybrid model - we'd love to meet you in the office 2 times a week with respect to your own commitments.

In this role, you will:

• Oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of financial risks at OTMS, including market, credit, counterparty, liquidity and capital risk.
• Oversee market risk measurement and monitoring, including Value at Risk (VaR), Expected Shortfall and other relevant risk metrics, ensuring appropriate methodologies, limits and controls are in place.
• Oversee credit and counterparty risk management, ensuring client and financial institution exposures remain within approved risk appetite and limits.
• Oversee stress testing and scenario analysis to assess the resilience of OTMS under adverse market conditions and support appropriate capital and risk management decisions.
• Use quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify emerging risks, assess potential financial impacts and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
• Ensure material risks, limit breaches and emerging issues are escalated promptly and communicated clearly to relevant stakeholders.
• Review and recommend changes to risk appetite, limits, methodologies and mitigation strategies where appropriate, ensuring alignment with the firm's risk profile and regulatory obligations.
• Work collaboratively with relevant business functions to deliver risk initiatives, strengthen controls and continuously improve the effectiveness of the risk management framework.

Additional responsibilities as a Member of the OTMS Management Board:

• Contribute to the development and assessment of the local entity's business strategy, providing independent risk perspectives and ensuring alignment with the global strategy and approved risk appetite.
• Oversee the implementation and effectiveness of risk management policies, procedures and controls in accordance with the global risk framework and applicable local regulatory requirements.
• Ensure appropriate risk assessments, stress testing and scenario analysis support material business decisions and remain consistent with the firm's risk appetite.
• Ensure timely, accurate and reliable risk reporting to the OTMS Management Board, Supervisory Board and relevant supervisory authorities, including the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), as applicable.
• Provide independent challenge to business decisions and activities where necessary, escalating material concerns and ensuring appropriate remediation and follow-up.

What skills do you need to be successful in this role?

• 10+ years of experience in a trading environment, financial risk management, or a role involving complex analytical tasks, business decision-making, and trading-related regulatory obligations, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strategic Mindset: Anticipates future risks and opportunities, aligns risk management priorities with the firm's strategy, and contributes to effective long-term decision-making.
• Manages Complexity: Analyses complex and sometimes conflicting information to identify key risks, evaluate potential impacts and develop sound recommendations.
• Communicates Effectively: Communicates risk assessments, recommendations and regulatory matters clearly to senior management, the Management Board and relevant stakeholders.
• Sound Judgement and Decision-Making: Makes informed, objective and risk-based decisions, appropriately challenging business activities where necessary to protect the firm's interests and meet regulatory obligations.
• Risk Analysis and Modelling: Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data, assess risk exposures, perform scenario and stress testing, and evaluate potential financial impacts.
• Regulatory Risk and Compliance: Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, risk governance frameworks, regulatory reporting obligations and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using applications of the MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, etc.).
• Proficiency in Python preferred.
• Experience working with Big Query preferred.
