Description
A spotter helps heavy equipment operators move loads safely by providing clear signals, maintaining visibility, and keeping people and obstacles out of the load or equipment path.
Essential Functions:
- Frequently use hands and talk/hear
- Ability to see color
- Frequently lift, bend, stoop, climb, and jump
- Continuous driving automotive equipment
- Being near machinery
- Changes in temperature
- Working regularly around dirt and dust
- Walk long distances and stand for long periods of time
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Reasoning, math, and language
- Occasional travel
Responsibilities:
- Maintain constant line of sight with the operator and load paths.
- Use standard hand signals or two-way radios to guide equipment.
- Communicate hazards to the operator and site workers.
- Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise; signal to halt movements.
- Keep pedestrians and non-essential staff away from the load path and equipment.
- Monitor load paths, rigging, and sling arrangements for safety.
- Assist with coordinating movements with the crane operator and supervisor.
- Report near-misses or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Always ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations
- Collaborating with team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in underground utility construction
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to excavation, trucking, and materials handling
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects as needed
- Excellent communication skills
- No criminal misdemeanors in the last 5 years or criminal felonies in the last 7 years.
- High School Diploma or GED
