Description

The Assistant Director of Admissions performs duties relevant to the recruitment, admission and counseling of students, resulting in the achievement of enrollment goals established by the university. Position shares with all other admissions officer positions common responsibilities: representing the university to all interested constituencies, reviewing admissions applications, managing recruitment and other recruitment-related duties. This position is exclusive to the Manchester campus, but the individual occupying it will be responsible for reading dual applications to the Durham campus as well. Additional responsibilities include supporting Manchester exclusive campus programming, representing the Manchester campus at recruitment events, and facilitating awareness of the Manchester campus within the public education, non-profit and business/industry community.

Duties/Responsibilities

Territory management and Recruitment (50%): 

  • Manage the UNH Manchester assigned first-year recruitment territory, which includes independent travel to visit with students, parents, and counselors in their territory.

  • Coordinate recruitment/travel with UNH Durham as needed.

  • Schedule meetings and appointments with high schools, students and other constituencies as well as make hotel, rental car and other travel arrangements.

  • Meet, speak with and counsel prospective students, their parents and/or their guidance counselors to explain pertinent admissions policies and procedures, advise on credentials and answer questions on academic programs and campus life. 

  • Conduct group information sessions that promote and explain the admissions process and the university. 

  • Makes strategic recommendations to improve recruitment and enrollment policies and procedures in order to enroll more first-year students.

  • Outreach to students via phone, email, SMS who are admitted but not enrolled and/or have not yet paid their tuition.

  • Represent the college/university to students, parents, guidance professionals, and members of the general public through programs on campus, at secondary schools, professional organizations, and through high school visits and participation in college fairs and other college programming.

  • Counsel applicants pre- or post-admission decision; perform essential and necessary duties to develop and maintain relationships with constituencies: program evaluation, SMS, email and written correspondence, phone outreach, etc.

  • Use data and research to understand market and student behaviors and inform recruitment strategy within assigned recruitment territory.

  • Track progress toward established enrollment goals within recruitment territory.

  • Responsible for recruitment with NH High Schools for the VLACS program in coordination and collaboration with our UNH online partners.

Application review and decisions (40%):

  • Independently read, review, evaluate and process applications for admission and rule on admittance within established guidelines.

  • Participation in file review committees as assigned. Track progress and meet established application review deadlines and goals. 

Other areas of focus may include (10%):

  • Staff the UNH Manchester Admissions office when not travelling and assist in answering phone calls, plan and execute information sessions, and managing walk-in prospective students.

  • Lead Special Events for First-Year Recruitment (e.g. Admitted Student Day, Open House, Career Days, etc.).

  • Assist with Supervision of Admissions Student Worker/Wildcat Ambassadors as needed.

  • Responsible for Recruitment for the UNH VLACS Program.

  • Coordinates with UNH Durham on dual campus applications.

  • Assist in staffing of limited admission events and programs.

  • Contribute to admissions planning and/or general office management.

  • Participation in other working groups/committees.

  • Other tasks as assigned. 


Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in educational counseling/ administration or Master’s degree in counseling or related field and two years of experience in educational counseling/administration.

  • Demonstrated commitment and experience working with diverse populations (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status).

  • Evening and weekend work required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Excellent personal computer skills required.

  • Excellent analytical ability.

  • Demonstrated appreciation for value and role of higher education.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, students, faculty and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments.


 Other Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License


 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with college and university admissions policies and procedures.

Compensation Pay Range:

$43,710.00 - $77,920.00
