Description
🚀 Own Inventory Accuracy for a Team Building the System From Scratch
📍 Role: Inventory Control Manager (Onsite, Fort Worth)
📍 Location: Fort Worth, TX
At Coastal Trading Ventures, we're building the operational infrastructure to support one of the fastest-growing eCommerce fulfillment operations in the country — and we're looking for an operational "Hunter" to lead the team that gets us there.
We are building our warehouse management system from scratch. Right now our inventory runs on spreadsheets, we are the fifth largest seller by volume on Amazon, and our Fort Worth facility — 125,000 sq ft today — is about to double within the next year to two years. You would own inventory accuracy through that entire transition, leading a growing team, and the controls you design are the ones we keep.
If you want to do work that's hands-on, high-stakes, and genuinely impactful on day one, we'd love to meet you.
🎯 Your Team
You'll lead a team of 10+, including a direct report manager, a team lead, inventory control associates, and QA associates. This is a floor-first leadership role — you're expected to be hands-on with your team and the inventory itself, not managing from behind a desk.
🎯 What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and develop a team of 10+ across inventory control and QA, including a manager and team lead who report directly to you
- Enforce a strict 3-way match (PO vs. Packing Slip vs. Physical Count) at the dock — you're the final authority on what we pay for
- Own the "grey area" of inventory during production and kitting: track units pulled for a build, ensure they're consumed correctly in the system, and reconcile leftover raw materials immediately
- Act as the "Data Cleaner" for our upcoming WMS migration — identify bad data patterns in our current custom system and ensure clean, accurate counts migrate to the new software
- Go beyond adjusting the count: run root-cause "forensics" on every discrepancy — receiver error, theft, scanning glitch — and fix the process so it doesn't happen again
- Execute daily cycle counts and audits, through your team, to maintain 99.9% inventory accuracy
- Tell a Warehouse Manager or Receiver "No, this is wrong, do it again" with professional firmness when the count doesn't hold up
- Spot where SOPs are broken and rewrite them — you don't just follow process, you architect it and train your team on it
🗓️ Your First 90 Days
- Days 1–30: Stabilize current-state counts and get to know your team. Run a full physical-to-system reconciliation across raw materials, kitted goods, and FBA-bound inventory to establish a trustworthy baseline before anything else moves.
- Days 30–60: Define the accuracy metric and build out your team's daily rhythm. Establish what "accurate" actually means here — by SKU category, by discrepancy type — and stand up the daily cycle-count cadence that holds the line going forward.
- Days 60–90: Shape the WMS build. Take what you and your team have learned about where the current spreadsheet-based system breaks down and translate it directly into requirements for the new tier-1 system — you're not migrating clean data, you're defining what clean looks like.
✅ What You Bring — Required
- 5+ years in inventory control, with direct ownership of a facility that performs assembly/kitting — not just pick-and-pack — including receiving FTL and LTL shipments with mixed pallets and near-identical products
- Experience leading a team of this size (10+) in a warehouse or fulfillment environment, including managing through a direct report manager and team lead
- Ownership of an inventory accuracy program: identifying discrepancies, driving root cause to resolution, and holding the line on data integrity even when it's the uncomfortable answer
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills — able to export raw data from a WMS and use VLOOKUPs/Pivot Tables to find what the system is missing
- A "floor first" mentality — this isn't a clipboard role. You'll physically inspect pallets, climb ladders, and open boxes to verify counts, alongside your team
✅ Nice-to-Have
- Experience with tier-1 WMS platforms such as NetSuite or SAP (this site runs on systems built on Excel/Sheets and custom/proprietary legacy tools mid-upgrade, so comfort with imperfect software matters more than any specific platform)
- Lean Six Sigma exposure or certification
- Background in e-commerce fulfillment or Amazon marketplace operations
📈 Growth & Career Opportunities at Coastal Trading Ventures
Growth isn't just something we drive in our systems — it's how we think about our people.
You'll have visibility into clear career paths and what it takes to advance into senior operations, specialized, or leadership roles. You'll benefit from:
- Mentorship from experienced operations leadership
- Cross-functional exposure to supply chain, warehouse operations, and catalog teams
- A culture that rewards initiative, curiosity, and follow-through
If you're ready to take ownership of something that matters — and lead the team that makes it happen — you'll be in good company here.
