  • Lead the architectural design of complex systems, including hardware, software, and interfaces, ensuring coherence, scalability, and performance.

  • Translate high-level mission and system requirements into detailed architectural specifications, design documents, and implementation guidance.

  • Evaluate alternative architectural approaches, technologies, and design solutions to address technical challenges, performance requirements, reliability, safety, and mission needs.

  • Provide technical leadership for system architecture activities, including architectural analysis, design reviews, interface management, and technology assessments.

  • Develop and maintain system architectural documentation, including architectural views, design rationales, interface specifications, integration plans, and architecture decision records.

  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers, Software Architects, Hardware Engineers, Product Owners, and other technical stakeholders to resolve system-level technical issues, risks, dependencies, and design conflicts.

  • Support system integration and verification activities, including development of integration strategies, interface test plans, system-level test scenarios, and coordination of hardware/software integration efforts.

  • Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of systems engineering and architecture practices, including model-based systems engineering (MBSE), architecture frameworks (such as DoDAF or FEAF), and configuration management.

  • Ensure system architectures meet applicable quality, cybersecurity, safety, performance, reliability, maintainability, and customer requirements, including adherence to relevant standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010, DoD architecture standards).

  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and contribute to the development of systems engineering processes, architecture standards, and best practices.

  • Hold technical accountability for the quality, integrity, and successful execution of system architectural deliverables within the assigned area of responsibility.

Job Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system architecture and design, integration, verification, and validation.

  • Demonstrated experience developing system architectures for complex, mission-critical, embedded, or distributed systems.

  • Experience with system architecture and design principles, including modularity, layered architecture, service-oriented architecture, and hardware/software partitioning.

  • Solid understanding of systems engineering methodologies and architecture frameworks, including DoDAF, FEAF, TOGAF, or similar.

  • Experience with system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., SysML, UML, MagicDraw, Enterprise Architect, or similar).

  • Experience with system development tools and environments, including requirements management, issue tracking, and configuration management systems.

  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) and/or DevSecOps development environments at the system level.

  • Experience developing and maintaining system technical documentation and engineering artifacts.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues and work collaboratively with systems, hardware, software, test, cybersecurity, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Minimum of Ten (10) years of relevant systems engineering or system architecture experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Four (4) years of additional relevant systems engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Desired Competencies

  • Experience developing safety-critical, mission-critical, or high-reliability system architectures, including familiarity with applicable standards such as MIL-STD-882, DO-254, or related development and verification standards.

  • Experience developing system architectures for DoD, aerospace, defense, or other complex system-of-systems environments.

  • Familiarity with DoD system cybersecurity requirements, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) and system-level security architecture principles.

  • Experience with system architecture and collaboration tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rational Rhapsody, Visual Paradigm, or similar tools.

  • Experience with embedded systems, real-time systems, distributed systems, or hardware/software integration at the architectural level.

  • Experience with system performance analysis, reliability modeling, safety analysis, and architectural trade studies.

  • Prior experience supporting strategic missile, weapons, aerospace, or other mission-critical systems at the architectural level.

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, or a related technical discipline.

Clearance Requirements
