Your Recipe for Impact — What You’ll Do
As a Risk Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting Whataburger's Enterprise Risk Management team while developing foundational knowledge in risk, compliance, and business operations. You'll help research, analyze, and report on key initiatives that support informed decision-making and continuous improvement across the organization. Through collaboration with cross-functional partners, you'll contribute to meaningful projects that help Make a Difference, Serve with Heart, Win as One, and Move Forward Boldly while building valuable professional experience.
Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities
As a Risk Intern, you will:
- Support risk, compliance, audit, and operational initiatives
- Conduct research to support business decisions and process improvements
- Assist with data analysis and reporting activities
- Utilize tools and systems to track, organize, and analyze information
- Collaborate with team members on projects and assigned deliverables
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Complete internship learning activities and program requirements
- Provide project support and perform other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience
As a Risk Intern, you must have:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to research, organize, and interpret information
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Extra Toppings — Desired Experience
As a Risk Intern, we prefer you to have:
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Finance, Accounting, Business, Risk Management, or a related field
- Experience working with data analysis or reporting tools
- Exposure to audit, compliance, or risk management concepts
- Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn new skills
- Experience working on team-based projects or academic presentations
Where & How You’ll Work
This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
