Key Responsibilities: 

• Own the enterprise fleet strategy, operating model, policies, standards, and multi-year roadmap for vehicle acquisition, utilization, maintenance, replacement, and disposal.
• Own the DOT and FMCSA compliance program, including regulatory applicability, driver qualification files, commercial driver’s license requirements, hours-of-service and electronic logging obligations where applicable, drug and alcohol testing coordination, vehicle inspection and maintenance records, annual reviews, required filings, audit readiness, and corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate regulatory records and monitor compliance indicators, corrective actions, and relevant safety performance data; promptly escalate material risks and close identified gaps.
• Partner with Safety, Human Resources, Legal, and Operations to establish driver qualification, onboarding, training, authorization, and remedial-action processes.
• Direct preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, recalls, registrations, permits, insurance, roadside assistance, and vehicle availability through internal stakeholders and external service partners.
• Develop and manage the fleet budget, forecasts, capital plan, and total-cost-of-ownership model; recommend lease-versus-buy and replacement decisions supported by data.
• Define and report key performance indicators for safety, compliance, utilization, downtime, maintenance cost, fuel efficiency, lifecycle cost, and vendor performance.
• Administer and optimize fleet management, telematics, GPS, fuel, and maintenance systems; improve data quality and convert insights into measurable operating improvements.
• Lead vehicle procurement, specification, upfitting, deployment, inventory control, transfers, and disposal in partnership with Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and approved vendors.
• Lead the fleet response to collisions, roadside events, claims, and regulatory inquiries; ensure timely reporting, investigation support, root-cause review, and corrective action.
• Select, negotiate with, and hold fleet vendors accountable for service levels, cost, quality, safety, and compliance.
• Coach and develop fleet personnel and provide clear guidance to field leaders and drivers as the organization’s subject-matter expert for fleet operations and DOT compliance.

Requirements

•  Demonstrated, hands-on experience owning or administering a DOT/FMCSA compliance program for a commercial fleet, including driver qualification files, vehicle inspection and maintenance records, hours-of-service requirements where applicable, regulatory reporting to cover various state and federal requirements, audit preparation, and corrective-action follow-through.
•  A bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, supply chain, transportation, safety, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible fleet, transportation, or logistics experience, including at least 3 years leading a fleet function, team, vendors, or enterprise-wide program.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local commercial motor vehicle/DOT regulations and the ability to interpret requirements for business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience managing fleet budgets, vendors, procurement, maintenance programs, and vehicle lifecycle decisions.
• Proficiency with fleet management software, telematics, GPS, maintenance systems, and business reporting tools.
• Strong leadership, project-management, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence leaders, drivers, vendors, and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond effectively to urgent fleet events, and travel to operating locations as business needs require.
• Physical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
