• Manages and implements the enterprise’s safety policy and audits the actions of departments and agencies 
• Provides annual reporting to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) utilizing the online resources to build OSHA 300 and 301 logs   
• Provides leadership on injury prevention techniques and works with the impacted department and other departments and agencies to implement actions such as training, personal protective equipment, near miss investigations, post injury investigations and OSHA reporting  
• Leads all efforts to address any OSHA claims or implementation requirements of OSHA findings  
• Mitigates possible claims related to environmental factors by working with insurance partners or consultants to perform a number of campus or specific building inspections
• Convenes, orchestrates, and guides the Central Safety Committee comprised of agency safety coordinators 
• Participates on local department “Incident Review Boards” as necessary 
• Innovatively and critically evaluates the program for new ways to track, receive or host internal accident reporting 
• Participates on Requests for Proposal for contractor selection related to Risk and Safety services 
• Maintains a library of training material from the National Safety Council 
• Attends annual TPA stewardship meetings and maintains a quarterly claims review process in partnership with Human Resources 
• Trains staff on OHSA 10 and 30-hour General Industry and Defensive Driving as core sessions 
• Supports new hire training to share important facts of the Safety Handbook 
• Research, develop and publish content for the “Safety Challenge” newsletter 
• Works with or requests contracted vendor support when necessary and manages TPA reporting 
• Coordinates with departments and agencies for BLS reporting and manages the overall system 
• Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications

OSHA 30-hour Certification in General Industry with five (5) years’ experience in Safety Management. OSHA 501 and 511 Certification. Experience in working with Third Party Administrators of Workers Compensation Claims. Proven ability to mitigate and correct job hazards and maintain a positive working relationship with impacted workforce. Must have integral knowledge of department functions and must show an ability to recognize and mitigate job hazards. Must maintain a deep desire to ensure safe work environments and create this will in others. Must express a dynamic leadership level that inspires trust of his or her knowledge of safety within others. 

Must be able to look at trends and determine injury patterns that can be targeted for corrective action or near-miss investigations. Must have an ability to communicate effectively with both leadership and line of duty staff. Proficient in Microsoft Suite, particularly an intermediate level or higher in Excel.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Management, Safety Management or Public Administration. 

Certified Safety Professional designation. Knowledge or experience in local government, or the administrative process and all previously listed requirements and qualifications.
