POSITION SUMMARY: The Gross Profit Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of gross profit reporting across tire center operations. This position is responsible for conducting detailed monthly variance analysis, investigating and resolving discrepancies with field teams, and ensuring timely and accurate general ledger adjustments. The role collaborates closely with the Purchasing and Pricing departments to evaluate the financial impact of pricing and promotional strategies, ensuring gross profit implications are accurately reflected in financial reports.
As a subject matter expert (SME), the Gross Profit Staff Accountant actively contributes to the design, testing, and implementation of key financial systems, including Oracle ERP, Supply Chain Management (SCM), and the company’s Point of Sale (POS) platform. This individual also supports enterprise-level automation initiatives, such as Accounts Payable automation, by bringing a gross profit lens to cross-functional technology projects.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical accounting skills, is proficient in financial systems including Customer First, Vast Online, NetSuite, MFCS, and iSeries, and is adept at producing ad hoc analysis and insights to support leadership decision-making. This position requires a high level of analytical thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and a proactive approach to improving financial processes and system integrations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

35% - Gross Profit Reconciliation & Reporting
Reconcile monthly tire center gross profit accounts, identify variances, and post adjusting journal entries in the general ledger.
Leverage NetSuite tools such as saved searches and scripts to ensure accurate reporting and transaction mapping.
Maintain detailed documentation and support audit readiness across gross profit accounts.
30% - Strategic Projects & Systems Initiatives
Participate in special projects and collaborate with teams to implement financial best practices.
Serve as the gross profit SME for system upgrades and implementation projects including Oracle ERP, Supply Chain, and new POS solutions.
Assist in process automation initiatives including future Accounts Payable Automation projects.
25% - Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support
Partner with tire center managers, Purchasing, and Pricing to resolve inventory valuation discrepancies and ensure gross profit accuracy.
Provide training and guidance on pricing, margin analytics, and inventory corrections.
10% - Ad Hoc Analysis & Financial Insights
Produce custom reports and perform targeted financial analysis to support leadership decision-making and operational planning.
Use data visualization tools and dashboards (e.g., Google Data Studio, Tableau, Power BI) where applicable.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Accounting Degree and 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, including experience with NetSuite, Vast Online, MFCS, Customer First, and i-series is preferred.
Experience with multi-location retail or manufacturing environments is highly desirable
Prior involvement with cross-functional collaboration (Purchasing, Pricing, Operations)
Core Technical Skills/Knowledge:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas).
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive), and Microsoft Word preferred.
Hands-on experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or comparable platforms with demonstrated ability to navigate general ledger, reporting, and journal entry modules.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
High attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to interpret financial reports and identify discrepancies.
Data extraction and transformation skills using excel and BI tools to analyze and reconcile large datasets across financial systems.
Familiarity with business intelligence (BI) and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Google Looker Studio) for building dashboards and performance metrics.
Experience supporting month-end or year-end close processes.
Ability to support system testing, UAT, and data validation during software implementations and upgrades.
Specialized Gross Profit Accountant Technical Skills/Knowledge:
Experience with inventory valuation or cost accounting preferred.
Strong understanding of gross profit drivers, including COGS, pricing strategies, discounts, and inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average).
Proficient in Customer First, Vast Online, iSeries, and Netsuite with an emphasis on inventory and gross profit analysis.
Understanding of inventory valuation methodologies and their impact on gross profit (e.g., FIFO, LIFO, weighted average).
Experience with researching, investigating and resolving discrepancies between GL and subledgers is highly valued.
Experience in preparing financial statements and documentation for internal and external audits is highly valued.

Develops and interprets detailed reports and dashboards to support strategic decision-making.Translates complex financial data into actionable insights for business partners and leadership. Analyzes monthly gross profit variances across tire centers by comparing actual results to forecasts or prior periods. Identifies trends, anomalies, or irregularities in revenue, cost of goods sold (COGS), and inventory movements.

They lead collaboration during system implementations, mentor colleagues on gross profit processes, and proactively identify trends and risks to drive data-informed solutions. Physical Requirements:
Primarily desk position; regularly required to sit, occasionally required to stand and walk. Requires frequent and repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate computer, mouse, keyboard, and office related equipment and the ability to reach with hands and arms. The position requires lifting no more than 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to communicate verbally and exchange information over the phone and in person.
