Agency Summary
Established by the Indiana Constitution, the Marion County Clerk is the custodian of all court records, issues marriage licenses, and serves as the court’s fiscal agent and trustee of child support payments. The Election Board receives nominations and petitions for elections, as well prepares ballots, and maintains voting machines by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment for our workforce to meet the needs of the citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County.
Job Summary
Incumbent is responsible for providing supervision, managerial oversight, and coordination to the various functional units of the Marion County Clerk's agency. Assists manager in daily operational management activities, provides work direction, training, and supervision to team-members. Incumbent will utilize the knowledge of established policies and procedures which controls most of their actions.
Requires proficient knowledge of and strict adherence to requirements and regulations related to the filing of legal documents and court proceedings; accessing court services; accessibility of court records, especially confidential records; and various fees and payment processes.
- Manage employees, working in a team or individually, to maximize their performance and contributions.
- Schedule their work and activities give instructions, motivate and direct staff to meet the Clerk’s Office objectives.
- Monitor and measure how an employee undertakes their responsibilities and how well these activities are executed.
- Identify areas for improvement and make suggestions to achieve this.
- Lead staff to help them achieve goals and maintain an effective working relationship.
- Delegate activities and tasks to others according to the ability, level of preparations, competence, and legal scope of practice.
- Make sure staff understand what they should do and when they should do it.
- Maintain accurate data base for timekeeping of staff, including family medical leave and short-term disability.
- Approve time.
- Make recommendations for improvements to work activities.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Previous leadership experience. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines is a must. Must have the ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks. Must be able to communicate effectively orally, verbally, and in written formats. Attention to detail is a priority. Requires strong customer service skills and ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships.
Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, or related field and one (1) year of previous supervisory experience.
Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical Conditions

- Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10) pounds
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation
- Tasks require the ability to perceive and hear sounds and see visual cues or signals
