Position Details

The University of Tampa Department of Music seeks a qualified candidate for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Voice/Musical Theatre to join its robust voice program, which serves approximately 100 voice majors. We seek a faculty member with strong professional expertise in both teaching and performance and a genuine commitment to mentoring aspiring singers and maintaining a high-quality vocal program within a collaborative and professionally rigorous academic environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in recruitment and outreach activities both on and off campus and to maintain an active scholarly and creative agenda.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach musical theatre and classical voice majors and minors, with a strong foundation in healthy vocal development and vocal pedagogy, and to direct a musical theatre ensemble. We are committed to developing well-rounded artists who graduate ready to thrive professionally in any area of the performing arts or to advance toward a career in academia.

The Music Department offers BA, BM, and BME degrees, and the Theatre and Dance Department offers a BFA degree in Musical Theater; both departments are housed in the College of Arts and Letters. The vocal program at The University of Tampa is thriving, and our students have opportunities to perform in Musical Theatre and Opera Scenes productions, as well as the Master Series and choirs, in our state-of-the-art facilities, including Falk Theatre, Gordon Theatre in the Ferman Center for the Arts, Sykes Chapel, and other performance venues in historic Plant Hall.

Required Qualifications:

-DMA in Voice (ABD candidates must complete the degree by July 2027)

OR

-MFA with an MM or BM in Voice or Vocal Pedagogy

-Teaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications:

-Mezzo-sopranos, Tenors, Baritones, and Basses are especially encouraged to apply

-Successful record of performing at the professional level

-Evidence of and/or commitment to outreach and recruitment

Required application materials include a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and two video links: one featuring a 20-minute recorded voice studio lesson demonstrating the candidate's teaching, and one showcasing the candidate's vocal performance representing a range of styles and languages.

A statement of teaching philosophy, copies of graduate degree transcripts, and contact information (name, phone number, and email) for three professional references will be required of finalist candidates at subsequent stages of the search.
