Description
In This Role, You will:
- Configure and program Honeywell Experion systems and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) systems, including the software and hardware used to monitor continuous chemical manufacturing processes for multiple 24/7 PSM facilities.
- Implement and test Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and critical interlock matrices.
- Use layers of protection analysis (LOPA) to evaluate the hazards, risks, and the layers of protection associated with the systems onsite to identify scenarios that present the greatest risk and how best to reduce risk for the organization.
- Diagnose and resolve system faults, hardware failures, and software bugs with a sense of urgency to maximize reliability of assets.
- Oversee and maintain Honeywell Experion distributed control system (DCS) and safety information systems (SIS), mitigate risk, monitor and address DCS alarms, propose safe strategic solutions to resolve issues safely and efficiently.
- Reduce process variability to improve product yield and optimize 24/7 chemical manufacturing processes.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware failures, software logic bugs, and drive process control and suitable software innovations in collaboration with instrumentation & electrical technicians and the operations team onsite.
- Evaluate efficiency and recommend suitable software solutions to automate manufacturing processes that drive plant performance and production improvements.
- Develop and review Safety Requirements Specification (SRS) and perform hardware Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification calculations.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 61511, industry standards and all safety regulations.
- Document processes, prepare progress reports, maintain KPIs related to systems testing, support audit procedures, and provide necessary inputs for Functional Safety Assessments.
- Document failure rate data and work with management of change teams to update hardware verification calculations as needed.
- Comply with all environmental, health and safety related best practices, policies, and procedures, including process safety management (PSM).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills to create and implement solutions as required.

- Must possess the ability to make decisions using discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.

- Must be able to work independently and as a team member to proactively meet company goals, handle multiple assignments, and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Statistical Process Control (SPC), project management software, and Teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, instrumentation or control systems engineering or related discipline.
- Ten years of experience in DCS engineering and/or SIS engineer-related role with significant responsibility in chemical manufacturing facilities and the industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading functional safety lifecycle activities onsite, SRS development, SIL verification, proof testing, MOC, and incident investigations.
- Previous experience with hazardous chemicals in a process management safety (PSM) regulated facility and reading piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDS).
- Three or more years of DCS programming experience with strong proficiency in Honeywell Experion preferred.
- Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP) or Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) certification highly preferred.
