Duties:
The Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Department and Montana Technological University are seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of History. This position is campus-based and begins August 16, 2027. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in American History (U.S. History I & II), and World History (Western Civilization I & II, and 20th-Century World History I & II), in addition to courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. The normal teaching load for this position is 9 credits per semester.
The IAS department serves the General Education needs of the campus and houses interdisciplinary majors alongside colleagues in Philosophy, Literature, Communication, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, and Political Science. Faculty members are expected to pursue research and other scholarly work, and to engage in service activities. The successful candidate will also advise students and may contribute to student recruitment, course creation, curriculum design and reviews, and student success efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned PhD in History (or a closely related field). ABD candidates will be considered, with the degree conferred by July 1, 2027.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate survey courses in both American History and World History.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience in college level History courses.
- An established research program with peer reviewed publications and scholarly productivity at the university level.
- Previous experience with student success, advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
- Ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate History courses including, but not limited to:
- History of Science & Technology
- History of Science, Technology, Medicine, & Public Health
- History of Nature, Society, & The Environment
- Economic & Labor History
