NOTE: We will be hiring one (1) candidate. Either a Maintenance I or Maintenance II or Maintenance III or Maintenance IV depending on the person's qualifications.

NOTE: Local #320

This position is responsible for performing servicing, repairing and construction work of the various sewer and water facilities, distribution and collection system.  The position will be filled as Maintenance I, II, III or IV position / DOQ.

Sewer & Water, Maintenance I:
$29.21/hr to
$30.21/hr DOQ
Sewer & Water, Maintenance II:
$34.11/hr to
$35.11/hr DOQ
Sewer & Water, Maintenance III:
$38.93/hr to
$39.93/hr DOQ
Sewer & Water, Maintenance IV:
$41.40/hr to
$42.70/hr DOQ

MAINTENANCE I

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


This is not an attempt to list all work operations of this job position.  Duties generally include, but are not limited to the following:


1.  Operation of equipment such as lift truck, backhoe, bobcat, etc.


2.  Assist in routine preventative maintenance tasks to the collection and distribution system; i.e. exercising gate-valves, repairing hydrants, flushing water mains, repairing chemical feed equipment, etc.


3.  Assist in inspection tasks of lift stations, elevated towers, hydrants, pumps and filter plants.


4.  Assist in preparing and painting equipment and structures.


5.  Other public services maintenance tasks as assigned, particularly in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.


POSITION EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:


1.  Some knowledge of sanitary sewer and water system maintenance and operation.


2.  Some knowledge of lift stations and filtration plants.


3.  Basic mechanical ability to operate a wide variety of equipment; i.e. jackhammer, packer, etc.


4.  Ability to drive vehicles with various types of transmission.


5.  Must be able to respond within 45 minutes to City Public Services facilities.


6.  Ability to assume standby (on-call) status when Supervisor determines necessity and capability to perform.


7.  Must work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.


8.  Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.


9.  Must wear safety equipment as required and follow established safety practices and procedures.


10.  Creates a favorable image of the City in contacts with the Public, Elected Officials and other Organizations.


11.  Effective communication with supervisor and coworkers.


12.  Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent and/or as assigned. by the Public Services Director or Supervisor, or other designated individual.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:


Supervises: May provide work direction and/or training to seasonal employees as directed that are doing gate valve maintenance and sewer maintenance.

MAINTENANCE II

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


This is not an attempt to list all work operations of this job position.  Duties generally include, but are not limited to the following:


1.  Operation of equipment such as lift truck, backhoe, bobcat, etc.


2.  Assist in routine preventative maintenance tasks to the collection and distribution system; i.e. exercising gate-valves, repairing hydrants, flushing water mains, repairing chemical feed equipment, etc.


3.  Assist in inspection tasks of lift stations, elevated towers, hydrants, pumps and filter plants.

MAINTENANCE III

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


This is not an attempt to list all work operations of this job position.  Duties generally include, but are not limited to the following:


1.  Perform daily checks, service calls, repairs and preventative maintenance to the City’s water well pumps, filtration plants; servicing, repairing and construction of collection system and lift stations and all areas of the distribution system.


2.  Perform all duties outlined in Sewer & Water Maintenance I & II position with minimal supervision.


3.  May perform water taps with tapping machines.


4.  Perform water testing in Bacteria, Chlorine, Fluoride and Iron.  Perform disinfection procedures.  Perform all the necessary repairs to chemical field equipment.


5.  Perform distribution hydrant flow testing.


6.  Perform water meter testing, repairs and installations.


7.  Perform hydro-static and conductivity testing of watermains.


8.  Make decisions related to water production and distribution systems and assist in preparing various eater department forms and reports.


9.  Other public services maintenance tasks as assigned, particularly in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.

1.  Prepare water/sewer reports.


2.  Carry out the daily routine responsibilities of the Sewer & Water Supervisor in their absence.


3.  Provide work direction and/or training to other maintenance employees.


4.  Perform all duties outlined in Sewer & Water Maintenance I, II & III positions without direct supervision.

5.  Other public services maintenance tasks as assigned, particularly in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.


POSITION EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:


1.  Knowledge of collection systems and of materials/equipment needed to complete various sewer/water maintenance tasks.


2.  Knowledge of lift stations and filtration plants.


3.  Basic mechanical ability to operate a wide variety of equipment; i.e. jackhammer, packer, etc.


4.  Ability to drive vehicles with various types of transmission.


5.  Must be able to respond within 30 minutes to City Public Services facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES


Maintenance I: Two years’ employment experience performing manual labor tasks in similar position, general maintenance background.  Ability to operate and backing of a pickup plus trailer, 1-ton truck with dump box, or single axel dump truck.  Experience within the past 12 months.  Must hold a valid MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement without restrictions and satisfactory driving record.   Basic computer experience.


Maintenance II: Two years’ employment experience performing manual labor tasks in similar position, general maintenance background.  Ability to operate and backing of a pickup plus trailer, 1-ton truck with dump box, or single axel dump truck.  Experience within the past 12 months.  Basic computer experience.  Must hold a valid MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement without restrictions and satisfactory driving record, a valid Class SD MN Sewer Collection Systems License and a valid Class D MN State Water Operators License.


Maintenance III: Two (2) years Maintenance II experience or equivalent employment experience.  Experience within the past 12 months.  Ability to operate and backing of a pickup plus trailer, 1-ton truck with dump box, or single axel dump truck. Water/Wastewater testing, basic experience with control panels, experience with computers related to supervisory system and supervision over other employees.  Must hold a valid MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement without restrictions and satisfactory driving record, a valid Class SC MN Sewer Collection Systems License and a valid Class C MN State Water Operators License and 


Maintenance IV:  Two and ½ (2-1/s) years Maintenance III experience or equivalent employment experience.   Experience within the past 12 months.   Ability to operate and backing of a pickup plus trailer, 1-ton truck with dump box, or single axel dump truck.   Water/Wastewater testing, experience with control panels, experience performing water testing in Bacteria, Chlorine, Fluoride and Iron, performance of disinfection procedures and all necessary repairs to chemical field equipment, Hydrant, gate-valve and watermain installation with no supervision, water meter setting, repair and testing with no supervision, experience with computers related to supervisory system and supervision over other employees.  Must hold a valid MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement without restrictions and satisfactory driving record, a valid Class SC MN Sewer Collection Systems License and valid Class C MN State Water Operators License.
