Description
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Represents the City of Red Oak in a professional, appropriate manner at all times
- Performs various tasks such as:
- Installing or repairing water/wastewater lines
- Evaluating and clearing blockages in wastewater lines
- Excavation and street cuts
- Meter replacement and installation
- Evaluating, operate, maintain, and repair fire hydrants
- Repairs valves, pumps and motors
- Cleans and maintains equipment daily
- Basic landscaping maintenance at water/wastewater sites and repair sites
- Assists with inspections, troubleshooting and repair of water and sewer lines
- Loads and unloads construction materials such as pipes, concrete and waste
- Responds to emergency calls from citizens and others for water and sewer line leaks and repairs
- Assists in the operation of boring machine, combo truck, and tapping equipment
- Safely operates a variety of Public Works equipment relative to work assignments, including; manual, power and motor driven machinery such as small power and hand tools, dump trucks, dirt compactors, jack hammers, and street concrete saws
- Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions
- Performs all job duties, tasks and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures and policies
- Performs all work activities in a safe manner and follows all safety rules
- Performs related duties as assigned or required by supervisor
- Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends or provides solutions as appropriate
- Keeps work areas clean and orderly
- Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others
- Protects classified, confidential and sensitive information
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required
- Demonstrated experience safely operating tools and equipment listed above
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record
- NIMS Training obtained within 3 months of hire
- Class “D” Water Distribution License and Class I Wastewater certificates preferred, or ability to obtain within six months of hire
- Ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s permit within 6 months, and Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of hire
- Ability to attain skills for proper use and care of manual, gas and electric power tools, equipment and materials. used in public works streets and drainage utility projects.
- Ability to attain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform tasks safely.
- Basic written and spoken English language skills and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic math skills including ability to perform accurate measurements.
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and maintain effective work relationships.
- Ability to respond appropriately to requests and inquiries.
- Ability to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
- Ability to abide by all rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to safely perform all physical requirements of the job, including strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions.
