There is currently one (1) position opening for an Operations & Maintenance Technician II - Fleet located at Joseph Jensen Filtration Plant, Granada Hills, CA.

Job Summary

The Metropolitan’s Integrated Operations Planning & Support Services Group, Fleet Unit has an opening for an Operations & Maintenance Technician II (Fleet). This semi-skilled role focuses on building foundational automotive, mechanical, and electrical skills while supporting crucial water and power reliability. The successful candidate will learn fleet maintenance procedures and work management databases while actively assisting with real-world equipment repairs.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Vehicle & Fleet Maintenance: Assist in servicing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse fleet of automotive, light, and medium-duty vehicles, including gas, diesel, and hybrid cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks.
  • Heavy Equipment Support: Gain exposure to and assist with heavy construction equipment, such as graders, bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, and cranes.
  • Systems & Power Equipment: Support maintenance and repair efforts for mobile and stationary emergency generating equipment and systems.
  • Digital Operations: Learn to use the Maintenance Management System (MMS) database to track work orders, manage inventory, monitor fuel, and maintain service records and regulatory entries.
  • Operational Reliability: Actively participate in maintaining and improving fleet quality to support critical water and power operations, including system shutdowns.

This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, often requiring overnight stay in the project area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to a minimum of 2 years recent experience in an automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance position. 

 

OR

 

High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate and attainment of skills through a recognized automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance trade training program and/or applicable related experience within a industrial environment. 

 

Experience and knowledge as demonstrated by practical application of techniques and practices specific to the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive light/medium or heavy equipment including pumps, compressors. Skills necessary include mechanical, hydraulics, electrical, and computer/electronics, and handheld diagnostic systems.

 

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

License(s)

• Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements.

o Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.o May be able to obtain valid California Class A Driver’s license and medical certification with appropriate commercial license endorsements (Tanker & Hazmat, air brake and trailer endorsements)

• Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in freon installation, automotive air conditioning and emissions (including CFC 12, Refrigerant recycling and service procedures) • Emission testing certification from the State of California • ASE certification • Air brake inspections certification
