Sandia Baptist Church is currently accepting resumes and recommendations for candidates for the position of Senior Pastor.

We are seeking candidates meeting these qualifications:

·       First, he must be qualified by meeting the New Testament criteria for pastors written in Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, 1 Peter 5:1-4, Ephesians 4:11-12, Mark 10:42-45

·       He must be a licensed and ordained Southern Baptist minister.

·       He must preach and teach the Bible as the inerrant and complete Word of God.

·       He must have pastoral skills to lead the church congregation and staff.

·       He must be a man of prayer who leads the church to pray.

·       He must have experience to lead a mid-sized congregation.

·       He must be skilled to lead the church to grow in health, grace and numbers.

The candidate’s personal character should reflect:

·       He demonstrates a surrendered life of love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

·       He loves the church of Jesus Christ and is loyal to serve the church.

·       He has a passion for the Word of God and is dedicated to a lifelong study of the Bible.

·       He has a heart for evangelism and missions confirmed in his lifestyle.

·       He embraces blended corporate music worship.

·       He holds to a complementarian view of the roles of men and women in the church

The candidates must meet these standards:

·       He must have completed a Master of Divinity degree or an equivalent. A Doctor of Ministry or Doctor of Philosophy degree is a plus.

·       He must be in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 statement.

The candidate must be able to fulfill these responsibilities as Senior Pastor:

·       He must be able to lead the church as under-shepherd working within the framework of a congregational governance model.

·       He knows how to lead through teaching, mentoring, team building, inspiration, preaching, and shepherding.

·       He manages pastors and staff as a team.

·       He has administrative skills to ensure the church is functioning well.

·       He must build a pulpit ministry that is inspirational and nourishing.

·       He oversees all the ministerial aspects of church life (weddings, funerals, visitation, ordinances, discipleship, and so on).

·       He equips and mentors leaders, teachers, and deacons.

·       He must actively support the Southern Baptist Convention, Baptist Convention of New Mexico and Central Baptist Association in keeping with Sandia belief and practice.

Who is Sandia Baptist Church?

·       Sandia Baptist Church (SBC) was planted by First Baptist Church of Albuquerque in 1959. This church has a rich history and strong legacy in Albuquerque, among New Mexico Baptists, among Southern Baptists and in international missions. SBC is a congregational-governed, pastor led, committee structured church. Worship is blended and multigenerational and live streamed. The church has planted three churches, has international mission partnerships and has sent many missionaries from the church. The current campus has several buildings and there is no church debt. The auditorium seats up to 700 people. (See Church Profile below.)

·       Current staffing is two interim pastors, two full-time staff and four part-time staff.

Overview of Albuquerque and the Sandia Neighborhood:

·       Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico with about one million people in the metropolitan area. It sits against the beautiful Sandia Mountains. The state has a rich heritage of Native American and Hispanic cultures. Much scientific work is done here including Intel, Sandia Labs, University of New Mexico, Kirtland Air Force Base, White Sands missile range, VLA research area, and Los Alamos Labs. We enjoy summer and winter mountain recreation, college sports, Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, arts and music events and many sports for children and youth.
