Description

Senior Scrum Master

This role enables predictable, transparent delivery across Software Engineering and ERP technology squads by applying Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and flow-based delivery practices in a pragmatic way that fits RTI’s operating model.

The Senior Scrum Master partners with Product Owners, Agile Delivery Lead, Business Systems Analysts, engineers, project leaders, and business stakeholders to organize work, protect team capacity, improve delivery flow, and create clear visibility into progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes

The Senior Scrum Master is a senior-level delivery leader responsible for enabling one or more Agile delivery squads to plan, execute, inspect, and improve work with discipline and transparency. This role serves as a servant leader, delivery facilitator, Jira and metrics steward, dependency coordinator, Agile coach, and stakeholder communication partner. Due to RTI’s size and operating model, the Senior Scrum Master fills several roles that may be separated into individual positions in larger organizations, balancing team coaching, project coordination, sprint execution, intake support, capacity planning, and delivery reporting within a single role.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable operating in ambiguity. This person can earn the respect of IT squads, work closely with Product Owners and Business Systems Analysts to stay planned ahead, use Jira as a delivery system of record, and communicate clearly with both technical teams and business leaders. This role does not have routine travel or physical requirements.

Location

This position can be fully remote but must be located in the continental US.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $155,000 annually, plus a 10% bonus opportunity. Please note that the base salary will vary based on geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate's experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Scrum Master & Agile Delivery Facilitator

  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile delivery squads, ensuring consistent, practical adoption of Scrum, Kanban, and Agile delivery practices.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies and delivery cadences including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, Scrum of Scrums, and quarterly planning as needed.
  • Coach squad members, Product Owners, Business Systems Analysts, and stakeholders on Agile principles, role clarity, team agreements, and effective ways of working.
  • Help teams stay focused on sprint goals, commitments, delivery outcomes, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Protect team capacity by helping manage competing priorities, late-breaking requests, unplanned work, production issues, and operational commitments.

Project Delivery Coordinator

  • Plan, coordinate, and drive technology initiatives from intake through completion in partnership with Product Owners, Project Owners, Business Systems Analysts, engineers, and IT leadership.
  • Translate high-level initiatives into clear bodies of work, sequenced milestones, dependencies, and actionable sprint-level execution plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work across Software Engineering, ERP, IoT, Driver Experience, Salesforce, Infrastructure, Security, Data, Integration, Service Desk, and business teams as needed.
  • Support release planning, project planning, sprint planning, and resource capacity discussions to ensure delivery commitments are realistic and transparent.
  • Track initiative status, risks, decisions, action items, blockers, dependencies, and delivery timelines across multiple concurrent efforts.

Backlog, Intake & Readiness Partner

  • Partner closely with Product Owners and Business Systems Analysts to maintain healthy, prioritized backlogs with clear user stories, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and readiness indicators.
  • Support project intake and prioritization processes by ensuring work is clearly defined, sized, aligned to business priorities, and ready for team review.
  • Help teams stay planned ahead by coordinating with Agile Delivery Lead, Product Owners, Business Systems Analysts, and project leaders to queue work at least one to two sprints in advance where feasible.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement and readiness conversations to reduce ambiguity, improve sprint predictability, and minimize rework.
  • Escalate readiness concerns, scope questions, dependency issues, and capacity constraints early so leadership can make informed tradeoff decisions.

Jira & Delivery Metrics Steward

  • Leverage Jira extensively to manage backlogs, sprint planning, workflows, dashboards, reports, delivery metrics, capacity views, and operational transparency.
  • Ensure Jira boards, sprint data, issue hygiene, workflows, statuses, dashboards, and reports accurately reflect team progress, capacity, blockers, and delivery performance.
  • Review and adjust team time entries in Jira as appropriate to support accurate project tracking, capacity reporting, OpEx and CapEx visibility, and time allocation.
  • Use delivery metrics, team health indicators, sprint performance, WIP, cycle time, throughput, and retrospective themes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Create clear status reporting and delivery views that help IT and business leadership understand progress, risks, constraints, and decisions needed.

Dependency, Risk & Release Coordinator

  • Identify, track, and help remove impediments that impact squad delivery, team flow, release readiness, or stakeholder outcomes.
  • Coordinate dependencies across teams, squads, systems, vendors, and business stakeholders to reduce bottlenecks and improve delivery predictability.
  • Partner with agile delivery lead, technical leads, architects, engineers, analysts, delivery leaders and IT department leads to sequence work realistically and protect critical-path activities.
  • Support release readiness by coordinating scope, timing, testing, communication, handoffs, and post-release follow-up across impacted teams.
  • Facilitate risk, blocker, incident, and post-incident discussions when delivery commitments or system stability are impacted, ensuring action items are captured, prioritized, and completed.

Agile Coach & Continuous Improvement Champion

  • Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, delivery data, team working agreements, coaching conversations, and practical experimentation.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, courage, learning, and customer-focused delivery within squads.
  • Adapt Agile practices to the realities of RTI’s business and technical environment, combining Scrum, Kanban, and flow-based approaches when appropriate.
  • Coach teams and stakeholders on realistic planning expectations, value delivery, WIP management, backlog health, estimation, and sustainable delivery pace.
  • Partner with other Scrum Masters, Agile Delivery Leads, and IT leaders to mature Agile practices, common standards, templates, dashboards, and delivery routines over time.

Stakeholder Communication & Leadership Partner

  • Communicate delivery status, risks, decisions, blockers, dependencies, and improvement opportunities clearly to IT leadership, Product Owners, business stakeholders, and project sponsors.
  • Prepare and facilitate agendas, checkpoints, action item reviews, sprint reviews, planning sessions, and executive-ready status updates as needed.
  • Act as a trusted delivery partner who can facilitate technical and business discussions without needing to be the technical expert.
  • Build strong relationships across business and IT teams, ensuring the right people are engaged at the right time to resolve issues and keep work moving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Stakeholders

  • Software Engineering and ERP squads
  • Agile Delivery Lead, Squad Leads, Product Owners, Project Owners, and Business Systems Analysts
  • Salesforce, Fusion ERP, IoT, Dx, Integration, Data, Infrastructure, Security, and Service Desk teams as needed
  • Developers, engineers, architects, analysts, administrators, and technical leads
  • Agile Delivery Lead, Scrum Masters, delivery leaders, and IT leadership
  • Business stakeholders, project sponsors, and cross-functional partners
  • Technology vendors and implementation partners when assigned initiatives require vendor coordination

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Scrum Master, Agile delivery, project delivery, or technology delivery roles.
  • Proven experience supporting software, ERP, SaaS, enterprise technology, or cross-functional IT delivery teams.
  • Experience facilitating delivery across multiple teams, workstreams, stakeholders, and shared dependencies without direct authority.

Delivery & Methodology Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Scrum, Agile, Kanban, Lean, SDLC, DMAIC, release planning, backlog management, and flow-based delivery models.
  • Ability to translate high-level initiatives into actionable, sequenced work that teams can estimate, plan, execute, and deliver.
  • Proven ability to manage delivery in environments with competing priorities, operational interruptions, production support, and business-driven deadlines.
  • Strong facilitation skills, including sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, planning sessions, retrospectives, working sessions, and executive status reviews.
