Description
Direct supervision of workers in Permanency Planning. This position reports directly to the social work Program manager. Most of the supervisor’s time is spent ensuring continuity of services to children and families. It also includes ensuring compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations set by the state. On Call supervisory duty is mandatory for this position to include after regular business hours, including weekends (at minimum of once a month). Workday may begin or extend beyond normal work hours.

- Coordinates departmental administrative operations which include formulating goals and objectives; assessing trends and needs of the workflow; ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and monitoring work assignments.
- Acts as a resource to social workers by fielding inquiries and consultations and demonstrating expert guidance,
- Coordinates departmental training to include assessing needs; preparing and conducting training programs; and conducting periodic assessments of program effectiveness.
- Conducts public relations activities by responding to citizen inquiries and representing the department on various boards and committees.
- Acts as an advocate for clients and departmental personnel by intervening in relations to agencies, landlords, health care providers, and community organizations.
- Advises and counsel social workers regarding programs and casework problems.
- Review and compare productivity or work performance of subordinate employees with established standards.
- Participate in the development and implementation of administrative policy
- Train new employees in departmental procedures, agency policies, and government and/or agency regulations.
- Propose recommendations for changes in programs and establish unit policies, goals, and
procedures.
- Assist staff members through group and individual conferences in examining case decisions and to improve their case management skills.
Knowledge of social service agencies and practices, community organizations and resources, principles of identifying and investigating abuse, local and state protective services, statues, child and family team meetings, family centered principles, developing family services agreements, supervisory and management principles, child development principles, budgetary principles, techniques for effective training, dynamics and signs of substance abuse, crisis intervention concepts, applicable federal, state and local status and aid programs, domestic violence as defined by verbal, sexual, emotional, psychological and/or physical abuse.
Skills in supervising and evaluating employees, preparing data reports, actively listening, speaking in public, coordinating schedules, critical thinking, management of personnel resources, time management, reading comprehension, monitoring, judgement and decision making, negotiation, active learning, writing, complex problem solving, instructing
Master’s Degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of counseling experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a Master’s Degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling; or four year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of experience in a related human services field; or an equivalent combination or training and experience.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing and occasionally requires walking, sitting, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
