Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50 per hour
Vacation: 15 days
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

About the Role
Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure success in clinical service delivery. The Mental Health Therapist provides and collaborates on treatment planning, intervention(s), and discharge transitions to the community/school with the youth and their family/guardians. The Mental Health Therapist adheres to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific discipline and applies the principles of evidence-informed practice to all aspects of this work. The Mental Health Therapist nurtures collaborative relationships with community partners.

The Mental Health Therapist will:
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of assigned children and youth and develop individualized and family treatment plans in conjunction with the primary team.
  • Develop treatment plans and formulate diagnoses, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support patients in achieving therapeutic goals using a variety of developmentally appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Arrange and facilitate transition meetings with community schools prior to patient’s discharge from program.
  • Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the youth and family.
  • Complete written discharge summaries to a referring therapist and psychiatrist after patient discharge to support continuity of care for the youth and family.
  • Co-facilitate parent support groups and multi-family therapy groups that are psychoeducation and/or psychodynamic in context, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities (DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the impact of trauma and attachment on the development of children’s mental illness and on children’s health and wellbeing.
  • Training and experience using modalities such as play-based modalities (play therapy).
  • Training and clinical experience working with families and Children and Family Services is an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently, and to prioritize work activities.
  • Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work and to communicate in a cooperative and respective manner with all staff.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products, including application to formal writing.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
Working Conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
