Position Summary:

The Athletic Director directs and supervises the following departments: football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s softball, and competitive cheer; and provide budgetary oversight for athletic training. The position reports directly to the Vice President, Student Services, and is responsible for: planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and coordinating the operations of the Kilgore College athletic program in compliance with NJCAA and conference rules, as well as federal and state laws and regulations.

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic Oversight: Direct the Athletics department’s strategic planning, staffing, evaluation, budgeting, scheduling, daily operations, and long-term sustainability.
  • Program Leadership: Lead and advocate for athletes, coaches, and staff; promote performance, accountability, and alignment with institutional priorities, including presiding over coaches’ meetings.
  • Compliance: Oversee accurate, timely student-athlete eligibility certifications and maintain compliance with NJCAA and conference rules, policies and established standards.
  • Risk Management: Collaborate with campus offices and leadership on compliance processes to minimize violations, penalties, and legal risk.
  • Budgeting: Ensure department resources support staffing, scheduling, facilities, program growth, and student-athlete success.
  • Financial Management: Provide financial oversight by monitoring departmental expenses, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and supporting sound budgeting decisions.
  • Community: Represent Kilgore College through community involvement while increasing athletics visibility and engagement with fans, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build positive relationships with internal leaders, campus committees, and external partners through fundraising, marketing, and special events.
  • Events and Scheduling: Oversee event planning, competition scheduling, venue management, and facility operations to ensure smooth, safe, and well-maintained practices and events.
  • Facility Operations: Align departmental operations with institutional standards for safety, quality, functionality, and readiness.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches and staff while promoting exemplary work habits, fiscal responsibility, and ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in Student Services leadership meetings, campus committees, and required conferences or seminars to support institutional collaboration and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Position Requirements:
 

  • A master’s degree in athletic administration, sport management, higher education, business administration, public administration, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Progressive administrative leadership experience within collegiate athletics, including experience supervising head coaches and support staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NJCAA governance, compliance, institutional control, and conference operations.
  • Experience developing and managing complex operating, personnel, scholarship, and facility budgets.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

 

  • Frequent standing and walking, with occasional lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and manual dexterity for equipment, paperwork, maintenance, and event operations, with increased workload during competitive seasons and tournaments.
  • Adequate vision and hearing are required to monitor activities and communicate in noisy venues.
  • Work occurs in offices, conference rooms, administrative buildings, and athletic facilities; frequent travel for games, meetings, conferences.
  • The role may involve loud or crowded venues, varying weather conditions, irregular hours - including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
