Job Summary
Reporting to the Geotechnical Engineering Manager, or any other individual designated by the Company, the Geotechnical Engineer will assist with all aspects of geotechnical engineering, focusing on mine site rock storage facility engineering and mine pit geotechnical engineering. The Geotechnical Engineer will draw on broad industry experience to apply diversified engineering techniques to complex situations relying on principles and /or fundamentals of engineering theory to ensure practical solutions. The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for instrumentation monitoring and the execution of field programs to collect geotechnical site-specific data, among others.

Responsibilities
Field Program Development & Oversight
- Lead the development, oversight, and execution of geotechnical field programs supporting rock storage facilities, mine pits, and groundwater containment system design.
- Coordinate drilling, instrumentation installation, and field investigations to support engineering analyses and design inputs.
Geotechnical Design & Engineering Studies
- Support and contribute to scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, and other mining project study phases.
- Integrate rock slope stability design, rock storage management concepts, and surface hydrology considerations into project design.
- Develop geotechnical engineering standards, monitoring plans, and performance criteria to assess and manage site risks.
Risk Assessment & Technical Advisory
- Assess, identify, and communicate geotechnical risks to project leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide technical interpretation of geotechnical data to inform engineering design, mine planning, and water management strategies.
Project & Contract Management
- Manage project-related budgets associated with geotechnical programs and investigations.
- Assist in establishing and managing geotechnical consulting contracts, including scope development and performance oversight.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the mining and/or consulting industry.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active progress toward obtaining licensure, through a recognized professional engineering organization.
- Significant experience in rock storage facilities design.
- Experience in rock mechanics design for open pit mining (slope stability), geotechnical monitoring systems, and tailings geotechnical design considered an asset.
- Experience supporting Project Evaluation at the Scoping, Prefeasibility, Feasibility, and operational stages.
- Work experience in a setting similar to Northern Minnesota considered an asset.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of stability analysis and deformation modeling software, and application of risk-based decision-making principles.
- Solid knowledge of overall mining business, planning processes, and project development lifecycle; operational experience considered an asset.
- Ability to build and maintain strong communication networks with peers, Project Managers, General Manager, and Joint Venture partner representatives.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and contribute to shared project outcomes.
- Commitment to continual improvement in understanding of industry standards, community considerations, and professional discipline advancements.
Physical Job Requirements & Working Conditions
This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include extended periods of sitting and computer use, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or accessing elevated platforms, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection and high-visibility clothing. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
