Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our team!
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide day-to-day geotechnical engineering support to construction teams and site operations.
Review geotechnical reports, drawings, specifications, soil investigation data, and construction requirements.
Monitor and verify geotechnical works to ensure compliance with approved design, specifications, and project requirements.
Provide technical support for excavation, earthworks, grading, embankments, backfilling, compaction, and soil improvement activities.
Review site conditions and assess the suitability of existing soils and proposed fill materials for construction.
Monitor excavation activities and identify unsuitable soil, groundwater, weak strata, buried obstructions, or other unforeseen ground conditions.
Provide recommendations for treatment, removal, replacement, stabilization, or improvement of unsuitable materials.
Review and provide technical input to Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Risk Assessments, and Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) related to geotechnical works.
Coordinate with QA/QC and approved laboratories regarding soil testing, field density testing, compaction testing, CBR, plate load tests, and other required tests.
Review and verify laboratory and field test results against project acceptance criteria.
Monitor earthworks and compaction activities to ensure required levels of density and moisture content are achieved.
Ensure appropriate testing frequency and locations are maintained and documented.
Inspect formation levels, subgrade preparation, engineered fill, sub-base, and other earthwork layers prior to subsequent construction activities.
Provide technical guidance on soil stabilization, ground improvement, dewatering, and excavation support where required.
Review and assess field conditions where they differ from the approved geotechnical investigation or design assumptions.
Support the preparation and resolution of Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), NCRs, and site technical issues.
Investigate geotechnical-related NCRs and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
Coordinate with Survey teams to verify excavation levels, formation levels, slopes, embankments, and final grades.
Monitor settlement, ground movement, slope stability, and other geotechnical performance parameters where applicable.
Provide technical support for temporary and permanent excavation works.
Review requirements for trench excavation, backfilling, bedding, and reinstatement associated with utilities and infrastructure works.
Support foundation construction activities by verifying bearing strata and ground conditions prior to concrete placement.
Coordinate with structural and civil construction teams regarding foundations, retaining structures, culverts, drainage structures, and other below-ground works.
Review and provide recommendations regarding field changes resulting from actual ground conditions.
Support construction planning by identifying geotechnical constraints, risks, and required mitigation measures.
Monitor geotechnical activities against project schedule and identify potential impacts on construction progress.
Coordinate with subcontractors and specialist geotechnical contractors to ensure compliance with approved requirements.
Participate in site inspections, technical meetings, progress meetings, and coordination meetings.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, geotechnical observations, and site conditions.
Prepare geotechnical technical reports, site observations, material/test summaries, and progress updates as required.
Support Client and Consultant inspections and respond to technical comments related to geotechnical and earthworks activities.
Airport / Airfield & Infrastructure Responsibilities
Provide construction support for runway, taxiway, apron, roads, utilities, drainage, and external infrastructure works.
Monitor airfield earthworks and pavement subgrade preparation in accordance with approved specifications and aviation requirements.
Verify suitability and compaction of subgrade, capping layers, selected fill, sub-base, and engineered fill.
Support CBR, density, moisture, plate load, and other field testing activities associated with airfield and infrastructure works.
Monitor excavation and formation preparation for airfield pavements and major infrastructure facilities.
Provide technical support for ground improvement and treatment of weak or unsuitable subgrade conditions.
Review and support construction activities involving embankments, slopes, retaining systems, and other geotechnically sensitive areas.
Coordinate geotechnical requirements for utility corridors, drainage networks, culverts, foundations, and underground structures.
Ensure geotechnical risks associated with airport construction activities are identified and managed before and during execution.
Support investigation and resolution of pavement subgrade failures, settlement, soft spots, excessive moisture, and other ground-related construction issues.
Construction & Field Focus
Act as the primary geotechnical technical resource supporting site construction activities.
Conduct regular site inspections and provide immediate technical recommendations for geotechnical issues.
Review actual ground conditions against geotechnical investigation information and approved construction requirements.
Ensure construction teams understand geotechnical acceptance criteria before commencing critical activities.
Provide practical and constructible solutions to ground-related site problems.
Coordinate closely with Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Supervisors, QA/QC Engineers, Surveyors, and Testing Laboratories.
Verify that geotechnical works are completed and accepted before proceeding with subsequent construction activities.
Identify potential construction delays resulting from ground conditions and provide early technical input to project management.
Support recovery and corrective measures where earthworks or subgrade works fail to meet project requirements.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, with significant experience in construction and site-based geotechnical engineering.
Strong experience in major infrastructure, airport, airfield, roads, utilities, earthworks, or large-scale civil construction projects.
