A caregiver in this role will work in the outpatient pharmacy at Willoughby Hills Family Health Center, supporting an average of approximately 360 prescriptions per day. Caregivers are cross-trained in all pharmacy functions and rotate through different work areas on a weekly basis. Responsibilities may include typing and filling prescriptions, supporting register and customer service, answering phones, managing inventory and stocking supplies and medications. Caregivers will also float to support other areas as needed and are responsible for completing daily task lists for their assigned workstations.

 

A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Thursday between 8:00am and 8:00pm and Friday between 8:00am and 6:00pm. The pharmacy is closed on weekends, with most shifts scheduled for 10 hours and limited availability for 8-hour shifts. Caregivers will have a weekend rotation requirement of approximately six to eight weekends per year at Main Campus. There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts at other pharmacy locations, based on department needs and availability.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.  

• Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.  

• Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.  

• Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.  

• Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.  

• Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.  

• Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• High School Diploma/GED   
• Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
• Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
• Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Six months of hospital experience  
• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
