Facilities Technician

Job summary

As Facilities Technician you will ensure an optimal working environment in the building. In this role, you will be responsible for performing regular building equipment inspections, assist the Facility Manager with maintaining the building equipment, and coordinate the cleaning needs of the building.

 

What you will do

• Performs assigned facility inspections - HVAC, Generator, and UPS systems and submit reports of conditions in the building and recommend actions to be taken.
• Maintains and operates all HVAC systems. Blowers, Roof Top Units, Heat Pump Units, and the associated equipment.
• Perform general facility maintenance: lights, basic plumbing, furniture, and manual repairs as needed. 
• Work with vendors to support the Preventive Maintenance (PM) service level agreements (SLA’s), HVAC, Fire Alarm Systems, Standby Generator, and the Battery Backup System (UPS). 
• Liaising with the cleaning service team, the trash removal service vendors and suppliers on behalf of the Facility Manager.
• Respond to building emergencies - serving as one of the contacts for all facility related emergencies (Including but not limited to fire alarms, HVAC system alarms, security alarms, etc).
• Monitoring and responding to building security/fire system alarms which may require work even during off work hours, weekends and holidays. 
• Review and understand equipment and methods of operations, Building Automation System (BAS), safety and security, and other systems.
• Maintain the plans for fire evacuation, disaster response, up-to-date records for all semi- annual and annual inspections, warranties, maintenance requirements and the implementation of scheduled servicing for key assets.
• Assist the facility manager with securing proposals for maintenance work.

 

What you will have

• Minimum of 3+ years' hands-on experience in facilities coordination, project management, or facilities administration.
• Relevant qualification in the building, facilities management, or construction industry is preferred
• Certification or qualifications in plumbing and/or electrical systems will be advantageous.
• Proven experience working with HVAC systems, generators, and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems.
• Practical experience in plumbing, lighting, and general building maintenance.
• Solid background in facility operations and facilities management.
• Good understanding of building infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and preventative maintenance practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 for reporting, documentation, and day-to-day communication.
• Valid South African driver's license and own reliable vehicle.
• Ability to respond to building and equipment emergencies, including outages, breakdowns, and urgent maintenance requirements outside of normal working hours.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple maintenance projects and service providers simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and compliance requirements relating to building operations
