Human Resources Business Partner
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about helping leaders navigate complex people challenges and creating workplaces where employees can thrive? As a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) at the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), you'll be a trusted advisor who partners with leaders to shape workforce strategies, strengthen organizational culture, and support meaningful business outcomes. At the AER, HRBPs play a key role in strengthening leadership capability by helping leaders make confident, informed people decisions, anticipate workforce risks, and create the conditions for high-performing teams. From leadership advisory and employee relations to organizational change and workforce planning, you'll play a key role in delivering people-focused solutions that make a real impact.
Working as part of a collaborative and supportive People, Culture & Learning (PC&L) team, you'll have the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide initiatives, build strong relationships across the organization, and contribute to the AER's mandate of serving Albertans. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, driving positive change, and making a lasting impact on both people and the organization.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Partner with leaders to provide strategic advice, coaching, and guidance on employee relations, workforce planning, talent development, organizational design, and HR programs, while building leader capability to make confident, informed people decisions.
- Support leaders through organizational change initiatives by providing change management expertise and practical solutions that drive successful adoption and positive employee experiences.
- Collaborate with leaders and PC&L colleagues to support the development and implementation of talent management strategies that support attraction, retention, succession planning, employee engagement, and career development.
- Work closely with Organizational Effectiveness & Learning Advisors to identify trends, share business insights, and develop solutions that address workforce needs and enhance organizational effectiveness. Use workforce and business insights to help leaders anticipate risks, identify opportunities, and take practical action.
- Translate business needs into people-focused strategies by acting as a conduit between client groups and the broader People, Culture & Learning team and helping leaders connect people priorities to business outcomes.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, from individual contributors to senior leaders.
- Support leaders in the implementation of enterprise programs, policies, and initiatives that drive organizational success.
- Resolve sensitive and complex employee matters with professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to positive outcomes.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; professional designations such as CPHR, Prosci, and/or a Coaching Certification are considered assets.
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience in a HR Business Partner or senior advisory capacity.
- Broad expertise across key HR disciplines, including employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, organizational development, change management, compensation, and talent acquisition.
- Strong knowledge of employment standards, human rights legislation, and HR best practices, with the ability to provide sound guidance on complex people matters.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, coach, and build trusted relationships with leaders and stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- A strategic advisory mindset, with the ability to move beyond issue resolution to build leader capability, influence business decisions, and support long-term organizational effectiveness.
- Exceptional critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver practical, people-focused solutions.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship management skills, coupled with high emotional intelligence, integrity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
