Job Description Summary:

The Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology at The University of Kansas Medical Center provides high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care within their area of specialization, including the evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with hematologic malignancies, including those receiving hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and cellular therapies. This position is jointly employed by The University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Health System and contributes to the clinical, educational, research, and service missions of both institutions.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the faculty member actively participates in the education and mentorship of learners, including medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees. The individual also contributes to departmental and divisional academic activities through teaching, scholarly engagement, committee service, and other activities that advance the missions of the department, division, and institution.

Job Duties Outlined

  • Provide evidence-based clinical care for patients with leukemia and other hematologic malignancies in outpatient and inpatient settings.

  • Evaluate and manage patients with acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and clonal hematopoiesis.

  • Participate in the divisional on-call schedule and multidisciplinary patient care.

  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through clinical rotations, rounds, conferences, and case-based learning.

  • Contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives in hematologic malignancies.

  • Participate in divisional and departmental meetings, conferences, and other academic activities.

Required Qualifications

Education: MD, DO, or equivalent.

  • This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine.

  • Board Certified/Eligible in Hematology and/or Oncology.

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Kansas and Missouri.

Comprehensive Benefits Package:
