About DelAgua
DelAgua is a social enterprise with more than a decade of experience implementing large-scale carbon development projects that transform the lives of rural households in least developed countries across Africa.
The Live Well program uses carbon finance to fund the free provision of a high quality, fuel-efficient stove with integrated education and life-long support. Today over 2 million stoves have been distributed, transforming over 8 million lives and delivering long-term behavior change as well as multiple, measurable impacts for people and the environment. This is the largest clean cooking program of its kind in the world with operations in Rwanda, The Gambia, Uganda and Sierra Leone.
DelAgua exclusively targets rural communities who are otherwise unable to afford the transition to clean cooking. Following this success, DelAgua is currently undergoing a significant expansion of projects across sub-Saharan Africa, with the stated aim of increasing access to clean cooking for rural communities.
About the role
DelAgua is seeking a passionate and experienced People and Performance Manager to support its teams across Africa. This position will work under the guidance of the Chief Operations Officer and closely with the senior management team to drive the development of staff and performance processes to ensure that the organization implement its ambitious expansion plans across multiple African countries.
The People & Performance manager will also provide ongoing HR support to the individual country teams to ensure a continuous deliver of high-quality projects in new markets to achieve the issuance a high-quality carbon credits in a timely and effective manner.
DelAgua is a fast, flat organization, experiencing real growth and the right person for this role will relish a close relationship with senior leadership, and be excited to partner with them to provide solutions and deliver ambitious goals at pace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing HR support to Country Directors/Representatives in all countries of operation.
- Assist in the recruitment of country-level, field staff and technical staff at the operational HQ.
- Design high-quality onboarding and staff training programs across all countries of operations.
- Lead on the development of performance management processes across all African teams to ensure staff performance and development continually improve.
- Devise and deliver staff surveys and engagements to ensure that senior management has a strong understanding of the views of employees.
- Work with Country Directors/Representatives to run annual appraisals that help measure performance and provide meaningful feedback to staff.
- Proactively drive the development of people and performance policies across the organization and contribute to developing the company culture.
- Ensure that country teams are fully compliant with all company policies & procedures.
- Manage any disciplinary, retrenchment or other people/performance processes in line with policies and provide support to managers in these instances.
- Support in the completion of regular internal audits to assess the company own compliance against country policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the COO or wider DelAgua management
Skills and Abilities required:
Required:
- At least 5 years of proven experience in people management either in the commercial or international Development sector operating in sub-Saharan Africa countries.
- Proven track record of impactful policy development within an organization.
- Excellent training and coaching skills with a proven track record of building successful teams.
- Good data management abilities and proficiency with data collection software.
- Proved track record of managing complex HR issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly PowerPoint & Word
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, often without regular direct supervision
- Fluency in English, plus full professional proficiency in French
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or business administration management.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of the carbon market and carbon finance.
- Experience of working in multiple African countries outside of Rwanda.
- Experience of engaging with rural communities to deliver community-focused projects.
