Job Summary
The Traffic Manager directs the movement, distribution, and shipment of materials in the organization. Control the flow of incoming materials and outgoing finished products to ensure customer satisfaction and shipping when promised. Responsible for negotiation of shipping costs and improvement of supply chain efficiency. This includes oversight of the performance of the traffic Coordinator. Responsible for planning, coordinating and executing, in a timely manner, the overall activities of the logistics team and implementing programs that ensure the needs of all functions within that area are met.

Duties and responsibilities
- Manage the third-party carriers that provide services, including meeting with carrier representatives to discuss transportation related issues, monitoring carrier performance, and reviewing current practice versus potential improvements by changing carrier mode or mix. Maintain appropriate records, such as DOT number, Motor Carrier number, and insurance coverage.
- Track all purchased steel and coordinate logistics to ensure due in material arrives on time to meet customer demand. Balance speed with cost while maintaining a focus on safety.
- Notify sales personnel of shipment status changes, breakdowns or similar on-road incidents that would impact customer satisfaction.
- Review daily shipping and receiving schedules for all outbound and inbound shipments to ensure all loads are covered.
- Provide flawless execution of the transportation services to our customers.
- Identify improvements in areas such as route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, and trailer loading.
- Actively participate in cost reduction, continuous improvement, and team activities.
- Implement company policies and procedures; assure uniformity of application between shifts and between departments.
- Maintain a standard fuel charge fee. Utilize the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s “On-Highway Diesel Fuel Price Index” to determine fee increases or decreases.

Required Skills
Qualifications include:
- Education requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 5+ years’ work experience in logistics, preferably in steel manufacturing or construction with over the road flatbed trucking.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA regulations, and safety training.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills – ability to solve both complex and uncomplicated problems, clearly articulating decisions and a logical execution plan based on all available information.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Self-directed, reliable, strong initiative, and bias for action.
- Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with team members.
Rate will be based on experience.
