Drive the digitalization of the R&D laboratories by leading the strategy, implementation and lifecycle management of laboratory IT applications.
Partner closely with R&D scientists, data steward and data science team to maximize business value, enhance process automation and ensure successful adoption of innovative digital solutions.
Lead the deployment and support GxP and non-Gxp systems, collaborate with vendors and stakeholders and contribute to the design of future-ready laboratory operating models that enable scientific excellence and business growth.
The IT Business Process Manager is accountable for:
- Holds the responsibility of System Owner of the IT systems assigned to him/her
- Analyses the organization and designs the technical systems and processes. Supports the business management to design business models and strategic business needs.
- Maximizes the value the IT solutions provide to the business, defining best practices and ensuring they are correctly adopted.
- Responsible to define the way the IT systems will support the Business processes defined by the Business Process owners, either within projects or enhancements.
- Ensure applications work efficiency and meet the performance expectations
Main tasks & Responsibilities
Operational:
- IT service delivery and IT project manager responsible for Lab systems in R&D
- IT project manager for the implementation of a scientific platform to handle all the data generated in R&D labs.
- Identify areas of improvement and increase efficiency of implemented Lab processes and systems.
- Translate business requirements to technical and functional requirements and organize them into value streams.
- Analyze laboratories and design the technical systems and processes according to strategic R&D needs.
- Maximize the value of IT solutions, defining best approaches and practices, ensuring an appropriate adoption, homogeneity, and maximizing efficiency.
- Review, simplify and verify requirements at regular intervals in the project/enhancement lifecycle to safeguard the business and the user’s needs, emphasizing user adoption and ease of use
- Coordinate and work with service support teams and Lab Vendors to ensure applications meet functional and performance expectations.
- Ensure documentation and knowledge transfer to service and lab support teams.
- Accountable for the update of system maps and data flows within internal IT inventories.
- Ensure appropriate function of instrumental software (including backups), complying with security requirements, data integrity, requirements and system risk assessment, compliance normative (GxP), and contributing to reduce obsolescence.
- Ensure that the Disaster Recovery Test is performed periodically and decide whether or not to initiate the recovery plan.
- Lead Operational Digital Lab forum and meetings. Execute action plans to cover key functional enhancements on existing lab software’s.
- SPOC (Single point of contact) of users for coordinating/supporting issues and demand redirecting to the right teams
- Ensure new acquisitions and upgrades are cost efficient and compatible with long term business goals
- Establish effective and meaningful KPIs to measure area performance
- Project management and agile mindset for the implementation of new solutions and coordination with cross functional teams
- Coordinate the implementation of a laboratory data platform
Communication:
- Active listening to R&D Laboratory stakeholders to understand the business requirements
- Provide Lab support teams the technical requirements in line with business objectives
- Lead R&D lab meetings and workshops to enable proper requirement gathering and reach agreements between different R&D departments about software usage.
- Lead design and implementation of the Lab business process under the area of responsibility, adding value and ensuring proper integration
- Proactive collaboration with required work teams (Data Science, Data Analytics, Laboratory technical support…)
- Maintain proper relationships with Lab Vendors
Business:
- Strategic contact for IT Business Partners to properly translate Business Requirements into improved processes or implementation projects with the focus on R&D Labs.
- Works with Business Process Owners and key users to create and maintain an operating plan to achieve the strategic vision and operating laboratory data platform
- Establish and support governance for lab topics, ensuring coordination between the different IT teams. This might include support for helping to design a global framework for Master Data in collaboration with the Data Science team and data stewards so instrument data can be exploited easily to get more insights
- Inform the BPOs of any events that compromise the continuity for the business systems under their responsibility
- Change Management with Business counterparts to ensure proper adoption of new processes
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, chemistry, biology, physics, engineering or closely related discipline to management of laboratory systems.
Experience
At least 5 years of Lab Software Management experience in:
- Lead Digital Lab implementation projects in pharma from design to deployment
- Managing complex IT projects with vendors and multiple stakeholders
- Lab application development, process design, and system validation practices
- Demonstrated experience in Laboratory systems or similar business process configuration
- Knowledge of laboratory processes and associated systems (LIMS, EMPOWER, LAB-X, ELN) and demonstrated experience in business process configuration.
- Market vision for solutions and trends of Laboratory systems. Broad understanding of the Pharma industry including GxP compliance.
Specific experience with the implamentation of platforms to manage scientific (lab) data would be a plus.
