Job Summary:
Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Tool Hookup Design Engineer will lead the design, integration, and execution of mechanical utility hookup systems supporting semiconductor fabrication tools. The role requires ownership across design lifecycle including concept, detailed engineering, BIM coordination, construction support, and commissioning. The candidate will drive engineering decisions ensuring constructability, maintainability, high-purity compliance, and alignment with facility base-build infrastructure. Must AI Proficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end development of mechanical / process hookup design packages including P&IDs, isometrics, layouts, and IFC deliverables
- Design and optimize high-purity process systems such as UPW, PCW, CDA, vacuum, specialty gases, and chemical distribution systems
- Develop exhaust system designs including acid, solvent, scrubbed and general exhaust ensuring cleanroom compliance
- Own LPOC/TPOC integration ensuring seamless interface between facility systems and tool requirements
- Perform detailed utility load calculations, flow analysis, pressure drop analysis, and capacity validation
- Drive facility-to-tool gap analysis and propose engineering solutions prior to installation
- Lead BIM coordination and 3D clash detection ensuring constructible and optimized routing
- Develop BOQs, material specifications, and procurement support documentation
- Validate system design for maintainability, operational efficiency, and future fab expansion
- Provide technical leadership during installation, hook-up execution, and commissioning
- Resolve complex field issues related to routing, interferences, and system integration
- Ensure strict compliance with SEMI, ASME, ISO and local standards
- Lead design reviews, HAZOP sessions, and risk mitigation activities
- Mentor junior engineers and enforce engineering quality standards
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced expertise in semiconductor process piping and utility systems
- Deep understanding of cleanroom design and contamination control
- Strong experience in LPOC/TPOC integration and tool interface engineering
- Capability in utility capacity planning and system optimization
- Knowledge of materials such as SS316L, PVDF, PFA for high-purity systems
- Strong understanding of fabrication, installation and commissioning practices
- Must have good hands-on experience in Generative AI tools such as Co-pilot, Chat GPT, Claude.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized institution.
- 08–12 years of experience in mechanical design engineering for semiconductor manufacturing.
- Proven experience in Mechanical tool hook up design & installation for semiconductor facilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and cross-disciplinary coordination.
Preferred Certifications:
- ASHRAE Membership
- SEMI/equivalent body membership
