Description
Based out of Canem’s Mississauga office, the Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, financial performance, and closeout of mechanical and/or electrical construction projects. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards.
What You Will Be Working On
Project Leadership & Execution
Lead all phases of project delivery, including planning, scheduling, procurement, resource coordination, execution, and closeout.
Develop and implement project execution strategies while proactively managing project risks, stakeholder expectations, and overall project performance.
Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
Financial & Contract Management
Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, cash flow management, billing, and monthly reporting.
Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and supplier agreements while maintaining accurate project documentation and controls.
Prepare, negotiate, and manage change orders, contract amendments, and project closeout requirements.
Client & Business Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and industry partners to support successful project delivery and future opportunities.
Promote Canem's services and identify, pursue, and help secure new project opportunities within existing and prospective accounts.
Support estimating, proposal preparation, project pursuits, and contract negotiations.
Safety Leadership & Engagement
Champion a proactive safety culture by leading through example and ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Engage project teams through site visits, safety observations, workforce participation, and continuous improvement initiatives to identify and mitigate project risks.
Support employee development by ensuring appropriate safety training, certifications, and accountability across all project stakeholders.
Team Development & Leadership
Lead, mentor, and support the Project Team to drive team performance and professional growth.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment focused on safely achieving project and business objectives.
Provide coaching, performance feedback, and leadership that reflects Canem's values and commitment to excellence.
What We Are Looking For
Journeyperson certification in a mechanical trade, or a related degree or diploma.
Minimum five years of experience in the mechanical construction industry.
Proven experience managing commercial, industrial, institutional, infrastructure, or transportation projects.
Experience managing both mechanical and electrical scopes is considered a strong asset.
Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, scheduling, forecasting, and risk management.
Working knowledge of applicable building, mechanical, electrical, and municipal codes and regulations.
Excellent knowledge of industry products, construction practices, and standards.
Strong business acumen with the ability to drive profitability while maintaining client satisfaction.
Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with construction management and project software platforms.
Experience with estimating software such as Accubid/AutoBid is considered an asset.
Engineering knowledge or experience is considered an asset.
