A DAY IN THE LIFE:

Performs a broad range of technical and laboratory activities supporting product development, verification, validation, and sustaining engineering efforts within a regulated R&D environment. Applies technical knowledge and practical experience to execute testing, troubleshoot equipment and systems, and support engineering projects with limited supervision. Works within established procedures and quality system requirements while exercising judgment in selecting appropriate methods and approaches for routine and moderately complex assignments. Serves as a technical resource for less experienced technicians and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.

Engineering Tech I/II's are also responsible for:

• Performs and supports engineering experiments, product evaluations, and testing activities in accordance with approved protocols and project requirements.
• Collects, analyzes, and documents test data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality system requirements.
• Prepares test summaries, reports, and technical documentation to support engineering reviews and project milestones.
• Assists engineers in the development, setup, modification, and validation of test methods, fixtures, and equipment.
• Constructs, configures, operates, and maintains laboratory test equipment, instrumentation, and prototype assemblies.
• Downloads, configures, and verifies software, firmware, and test programs used in engineering and laboratory testing.
• Performs functional testing, fault isolation, root cause investigations, and troubleshooting of electronic, electro-mechanical, and test systems.
• Supports verification and validation activities for new products, design changes, and sustaining engineering projects.
• Reviews test data and identifies trends, anomalies, or failures requiring additional investigation.
• Assists with engineering change orders (ECOs), design documentation updates, and controlled document reviews.
• Maintains accurate laboratory records, equipment logs, calibration records, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Ensures laboratory equipment and test fixtures remain qualified, operational, and available to support project schedules.
• Performs soldering, rework, repair, and assembly of electronic circuits, PCB assemblies, and prototype hardware.
• Supports investigation, documentation, and resolution of nonconformances and test-related issues.
• Maintains laboratory organization, inventory, and housekeeping in accordance with safety and 5S standards.
• Provides guidance and training to entry-level technicians on laboratory procedures, equipment operation, and best practices.
• Performs all assignments in compliance with company policies, quality system requirements, safety procedures, data integrity standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:

Onsite: This position is fully onsite and open to candidates located in San Diego, California. Equipment for the role will be provided and training will occur onsite. 

Schedule: This position will work Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and test procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills involving electronic, electro-mechanical, and laboratory systems.
• Knowledge of laboratory practices, data collection methods, and technical documentation requirements.
• Ability to independently perform routine and moderately complex testing activities with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a regulated environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including documenting technical findings and presenting results.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while meeting project schedules and quality expectations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks for viewing and reviewing engineering drawings and models.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and data trending techniques preferred.

Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate Degree in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant work experience will be considered.

Minimum Experience:

• 0 - 2 years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, or technical environment
• 2 years experience in an engineering, R&D, laboratory, manufacturing, or regulated technical environment.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and data acquisition systems.
• Experience supporting product development, verification, validation, manufacturing, or sustaining engineering activities.
• Hands-on experience with soldering, PCB assembly, and electronic hardware troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with regulated environments such as FDA, ISO 13485, GMP, GLP, or similar quality systems preferred.
• Experience with PLC-based systems, automated test systems, or industrial controls is a plus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Level 1: The starting base hourly pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00.

Level 2: The starting base hourly pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00.

Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus and a robust benefits package.
